So... I decided to bite the bullet...

Recommended Posts

And start exercising!

I am the LAZIEST ****er alive and haven't done any proper exercise for at least 3 years (I do the occasional line dancing, which is great cardio, but when I say occasional, I mean about 5 times a year, for about an hour at a time)

But after having lost some weight last year that I was really happy with, being on tour and eating nothing but carbs, I ended up putting it back on and couldn't bring myself to eat soups and salads afterwards, so... it stayed on!

So now I decided something has got to give and this is NOT an acceptable weight to be!

I started Hip Hop Abs by Shaun T. Did the first training today. I thought, being ridiculously unfit, that I wouldn't last the 30 minutes of the cardio training. But I did. And without struggling too much! So I'm happy with that!

Tomorrow will be another matter though.. It's the same exercise and my legs were BURNING! So tomorrow I can look forward to not being able to walk!! YAY!

But I hope I can manage this and lose some inches at least! My flabby stomach and legs are starting to offend me!

Also gotta add... doing that with a swollen knee?? Not the easiest! But I need to persevere (and no, it won't damage the knee... it seems the swelling id due to lack of muscle... so building muscle will help and at some point, reduce the swelling!)

Good deal. You have got my admiration.

Start slow, but steady.

And remember when you hit the bench next time:

Exercise is suffer now, enjoy later. Unhealthy living is enjoy now, suffer later.

May as well suffer now and look good doing it. Go get 'm!

Good luck on your workout journey! I know how hard it can be getting started, especially when you haven't done any kind of workout for years. It will be hard at first, but when you start to see your health improving, you won't be able to stop :)

Don't do the same exercises every day. Your body needs to recover so it can build muscle and heal. Alternate weights with cardio, for example. Dancing is great cardio.

For weight loss you still have to change your eating habits. More protein, less starch and sugar.

this is a set training program. I'm only following it. And this *IS* dancing. So tomorrow, is the same video, same exercises.

And my eating habits are good, thanks. I changed them 2 years ago. But in my line of work, sometimes you just can't eat how you'd like. My current diet is fine for maintaining, but not amazing for losing, so need a bit of a push.

The weight that I lost the past 2 years was on NO exercise and I never starved myself, so, yeah, i have a good grasp on the foods needed.

I agree with letting your muscles recover, but 30 mins a day of cardio, should not need recovery. Also why not get knee supports until your other muscles have got bigger to support the knee joint? Swollen joints mean something's not right. I'd go to an osteopath if you can get to one. A good one will speed up recovery. If you can't afford it, then ibuprofen will help the swelling.

I've been to my ortho last week and he advised exercise and that the swelling is due to weak muscle putting too much pressure on the synovial.

After 4 days, the swelling is now gone.

And the exercising is going well. Still early days though!

Could have been by exercising the blood got into the afflicted area and allowed it to heal, which a good osteopath could have hastened with acupuncture needles and electricity.

Glad you're doing well. You should do a photo diary to keep you motivated. Weight and body fat measurements are usually well out. But the camera never lies :)

The knee thing has been recurring since the start of the year. I'm hoping that by strengthening it it will stop the recurring swelling.

Taking measurements, but so far, not noticed much of anything, but then I only started on monday, so it's still early days. And the program is only 30m of cardio/abs a day, which is not that much.

But I'll keep going. Maybe after I'll do Insanity... :)

I do insanity sometimes when the weather is just intolerable for running outside. Is the dance program fun. I'll suffer through anything if Shaun t has his shirt off! :lmao:

Push through! It gets easier. But never truly easy.

Props to you for your new goal! And also, more for doing it with a knee problem. :p

Just remember to eat well when you do workout and try your best not to skip workout days! When you skip, it gets harder and harder to get back on track.

Just completed 2 workouts today!! It feels good! And they're getting easier to do (which obviously, I expected, but it's nice when you can actually feel the difference... A few days ago I had trouble doing one of the workouts, today I managed, even if with a reasonable amount of pain!)

I'm gonna have to play with the schedule a bit, but keeping on track!!

Haven't noticed any changes in measurements, but I've lost 1,5kgs (that I put on recently while on holiday, so it makes sense that they're going fast)
