Somebody start the lighthouse...

It's a fog. You know the kind, billowing, thick, obscuring everything so that everything seems haunting. Not foreboding, just not quite clear. You wander about trying to make out what that shape is, or those noises (what are they?) and your way. That MUST be made lest you stay lost in the fog.

It doesn't clear. No sunrise will burn it away. no winds of change will take it out to sea. It's the fog of life. The fog of so many questions posed again and again on Loveshack type websites and therapists couches, and support group meetings everywhere. You finally realize that each of those obscurities must be approached and appreciated for what they are for real. Up close and personal like. As you learn each one intimately you begin to get your bearings. The map of your life begins to form in your mind, and you become who you are.

Every once in a while, you'll find a new something, previously hidden in the fog. Either by stumbling, or colliding you can no more ignore it than the fog itself.

What the hell am I talking about? A new found appreciation for the complexities and irregularities of life. and the acceptance of the chaos therein. The ability of some to cope with those who can embrace that chaos, and the inabilities of those who can't.

Imagine walking around in a fog and you find something. Wouldn't you want to hold on to that safety?

what sense would it make to wander back into the fog?

What would be gained by leaving the security of this thing you already know?

What would be lost?

What if you were the fog? then what?

:)

Interesting post. I like to look at life a lot like the weather too.

One of my favorites is for when we are going through a dark time. It's a thunderstorm and you can even sit on the porch in the country and watch it roll in, lighting and dark clouds. Then it rains and pours and lightning is all around you, surrounding everything you can see. But, eventually, the storm starts to break and it's just raining. It slows to a sprinkle and then you start to see some light through the clouds. The clouds move off and you can see the whole sun. It's beautiful and you appreciate it that much the more for you just saw that awesomeness of nature overtake all.

I do believe that the sunrise can sometimes burn away the fog... but you've got to be willing to see it...

"Pink skies at night, sailor's delight. Pink skies in the morning, sailors take warning." I saw the most beautiful sunrise the other day; it was mostly pink.
