Stay_Gold
Is codependency in a household (single family cohabitation) a “by-product” or “result” of people/adults with mental/personality disorders living together communally/co-habitably…??? After 30 years of analyzing, evaluating and observing my background, past and just overall life experiences/issues…I have come to the conclusion and more specifically…my “THEORY”...is that “Codependency by itself” is “NOT” the problem or issue. In my opinion…it is the personality/mental disorders people are born with…that are the “root” or “cause” of the underlying family problems/issues. In my opinion…codependency is just the end result or the by-product that is made from having these disorders “interacting with each other” on a constant basis day in and day out. My best analogy(s): 1. PROCESSED FOODS. Everyone knows that you should NOT eat processed foods with excess sugar/salt/fat in them. When you do eat them…as a result…you end up with obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and a slew of other health problems. In this case…Processed foods/salt/sugar would be the personality disorders and obesity, diabetes, etc would be codependency. Obesity and diabetes is not the problem/cause…it is the salt and sugar in the processed foods that is the problem. 2. DRUGS, ALCOHOL and SMOKING (tobacco/cigarettes). Everyone knows that you should NOT smoke, drink and do drugs. When you do…as a result…you end up with lung cancer, liver cancer and a slew of other health problems. In this case…drugs, alcohol and tobacco would be the personality disorders and cancers, etc would be codependency. Lung cancer, liver cancer is not the problem/cause…it is the drugs, alcohol and smoking that is the problem. I don’t know if these analogys best fits my observation but it’s what I can come up with. Does anyone else on LS believe the same way or have evidence of this to be true/sound…??? As a result of my ethnic background and my family structure…there is a lot of codependency in my life. I am NOT a psychologist/sociologist/therapist/anthropologist or any scholarly professional in the human mental field/industry...BUT…if there is someone on LS with the proper education/intellect/profession and experience...Please elaborate and/or comment. Thanks. Edited May 2, 2014 by Stay_Gold
