Don't have the same interest as H

Recommended Posts

H and I have been 2gether a little over 14 years and married almost 13. When we got M we both knew we had different interest when it came to sports. He is a sports freak. Played baseball, golf, basketball as a kid all through school and college and continues to play golf and softball. I have never liked sports. One time I tried playing on a co-ed softball team w/ him but it didn't work out (embarrassing story why). I have a love for horses and he has no interest in them and I accept that. He has tried horseback riding w/ me once but hasn't done it since. Sometimes I feel he resents me b/c I wont sit and watch football games w/ him. I do go and watch baseball games w/ him once in awhile but not often.

He had an A 2 years ago during our separation and pending D (we got back 2gether). The OW had interest in sports and plays also so they had that in common. Sometimes I wonder if he didn't have the A w/ her b/c they had the sports in common.

Is it possible to have a good M when the couples don't share the same interest? I do not like sports, never have. I just find it hard sitting there watching it and not being totally bored.

I think that you should have somethings in common interest but not everything.

I have horses too and a love for cars. My man is not into horses at all but is afraid of them. He likes cars alright but I'm more into them. The thing is that horses and cars are my thing, it's something I get to do on my own or with my family. I love the fact we have our own outside interests as long as we find things we like to do together there is nothing wrong with not having everything in common.

Maybe you and I need to hang out, lol. I love horses and cars too! H wasn't too much into cars until he met me now he also has a love for classic Mopar muscle cars. I pretty biased when it comes to cars for me though, only Mopar for me. My personalized license plate even has "MOPAR" on it, lol

Thanks for your reply, I appreciated it.

No way. I'm a Mopar Girl too! What kind do you have? Between me and my four brothers we have over 40! I have 1968 Dart GT, 1965 Barracuda and a 1962 Sport Fury. You wouldn't believe me if I listed all the others but those three I got on my own. Me and my brothers are a team on it and go in together to get them.

Still-

Have you tried finding anything that you can do that at least lets you two be together, while working or doing something different? For example...if you like to do crossword puzzles, knit, whatever....try doing that in the same room as he is while he's watching the game. It may not hold any interest for you, but he does.

By the same token, he should make some kind of effort to do the same kind of things...in other words, try to find a way to still enjoy being with EACH OTHER when you can.

Having different hobbies and interests is not a death sentence to a marriage...as long as you both have things that you can share as well. Having diverse interests can be good...it brings variety to the conversation. Even if you don't care for sports...learn the lingo, and try to at least follow what he's got going on. And ask him to do the same with your interests as well.

I recently learned to crochet, since that was one of the things my wife has loved to do for years. I now sit and work on projects at times when she's watching TV or something that I may not have as much interest in. She'll knit or crochet, or do other crafts when I watch MY shows for expample. Then we have nites where there are shows we BOTH like....LOL.

I like to do renessaince festival things. She's not nearly as into it as I am...but she's got her own outfits, and dresses out with me occasionally to go to fair. I, in turn, don't try to drag her to every event I want to hit...I let it be her option. You get the idea.

What things do you BOTH have an interest in? Schedule time to do those. And make sure that you both have enough leeway to let the other person do their own things too...balance is the key!

OMGOSH!!! Fourty!!! I am extremely jealous, lol. Unfortunaltely I do not own any classic Mopars. I wish I could afford one but they cost so much $$$$ if you want one that is original or restored even. Right now I drive a Chrysler Sebring LXi 2 door. I LOVE this car. Even though I catch he!! from my brother's employee (my brother owns his own mechanics shop) b/c the engine is a Mitsusbishi (sp). My dh finally got his Dodge pick-up a few months ago. Very nice truck. He calls me "Mitsusbishi" whenever I see him and now my sil does the samething. They know it annoys the he!! out of me, lol. I grew up w/ Mopars w/ my brothers also. My oldest brother has had many from Cudas, Super Bees, Challangers, Chargers, he's had a lot. He doesn't keep them long. He is a car dealer. Buys them at a good price and sells them to make a profit. Right now my little brother owns three Duster's. He races one of them at the drag races. The other one he use to race but the one he has that he races has a 440 in it and his other has a 340. He also has one he is going to restore for his ds when he gets older. My dh found a 68 Challanger for me but it needs a lot of work. Dh doesn't know about doing that but my brothers and dad do, they just don't have the time. One of these years (b4 I die, lol) I want a '70 or '71 Cuda. That is my dream car.

Not to sound rude or nosey but do you have any that cost an arm and a leg? LOL! My brother bought a Cuda convertable for $22,000!! I could NEVER afford that unless I won the lottery. I know I have looked in Mopar Magazines and Ebay and a lot go for over $100,000, some over $300,000!!! I can't afford a $300,000 house let alone a car, lol.

You said you have horses also? What breed(s)? I use to own a Quarter Horse back when I was in HS and college. I had to sell her though b/c I moved away and had no place to board her. After I sold her I got to ride her a few times after that. I haven't rode her in several years. She is almost 30 years old now. I sure miss her and one of these days when I have the money I want another. Right now my sister owns an Arabian mare and her colt (who is almost a year). I live my dream of having another horse through her. I want an Arabian now. I use to want a Quarter Horse again but the Arabians are an awesome breed. My sister's mare is a wonderful horse. It's awesome to "meet" someone who loves the samethings I do. PM me sometime!

Owl, LMBO!!! I could just see my H crotcheting or knitting!!! He is a big guy (6'4 and 225 lbs) and seeing him doing that would crack me up! I think it is awesome what you and your wife do together. You are one in a million. My H and I do enjoy things together like going to the NHRA drag races and going to car shows together. We do that as much as we can. So we do have a few interest alike but we wish we could do it more often but finances keep us from doing that.

The high dollar ones would be the 1968 & 69 Roadrunner. The pre 65 B Bodies. One is a race car 11.6 seconds it's a 63 Polara with a Built 440.

You can thank the internet for the high prices. I bought my 65 Barracuda for $550.00 running around 8 years ago. Once in awhile we still come across deals but anymore your parts cars are over $1000.00. My dream is the Cuda too or a 1968 Dart GTS with Hemi of course. Way out of my price range though.

I have four horses, Appy/Moarab, Welsh/Arab, Welsh Sec. B & a little ****land. I too love the Arabians but I ended up buying or receiving charity cases. I love them and wouldn't trade them for anything.
