Hi All. I've had quite a scare over the weekend and just made an appointment to see a dermatologist on Thursday. Over the course of the last year I noticed a small protruding mole on my neck. I just made sure to keep an eye on it and saw no signs of change until about a week ago. I started noticing it when I got out of the shower and wasn't sure if it was growing or my eyes were playing tricks on me. Well on Saturday I caught a glimps of it in my car window reflection and it stood out to me enough that it must be growing and I was going to look in to getting it looked out. Literally the next day I woke up and it shrunk significantly. Almost to nothing. It went from flesh colored to a very tiny black ball that just looks as if its hanging off the skin. I am terrified that I waited to long even tho I saw no change whatsoever within the last week.

I've just never seen anything change that rapidly. I thought I was doing that right thing by checking it almost daily for change, but to change that quickly?? I honestly thought since I saw no change for so long it was a skin tag. If I had not known about this mole, with the size it is now, there is no one I would have even detected it any longer. Anyone have any experience or ideas. I am going to go nuts until my appointment Thursday. My mother just had precancer spots frozen off her face, but I'm afraid this protruding mole WAS the chance to get it removed before anything bad happened. I just always thought you went at the first sign of change, and the first sign of change was two days ago. It just happened to be a major significant change. Any thoughts would be helpful. THank you.

I'd guess that shrinking is better than growing. See what your derm says. I've had moles turn pale and then eventually fade away. It's when they start getting darker, with jagged edges and get bigger that you should be worried.

Why not have your doc do a total body mole check to put your mind at ease? He may decide then and there to take a few off and give you some peace of mind.

Thanks. I am going to have him do that. I have one on my underarm that I'm going to have him look at as well. It was just really weird. This has been on my neck for over 6 months, and the second I start thinking its getting larger and to get it checked out, it completely shrinks over night. It was reduced to just a little black ball and even that has fallen off today. All that is left is a very small area of red, one I wouldn't even notice had I not already been surveying that area. It was just so rapid that caused me more concern.

You might have accidentally scratched it off in your sleep or perhaps your collar scraped it or you hit it with something.

Yeah, sounds like a skin tag that came off.

This sounds more like a skin tag than a mole. Moles can't be picked off by accident if you scratch them, but skin tags can.
