Greetings,

I am 24 year old, mechanical engineer, working full time 8am to 6pm. Also studying on masters degree on automotive engineering. I have exams and presentations and finals till 7th of June.

I also applied for pilot training academy. I will deliver requested informations and take a very important exam in 24th may. If I pass this, there is big chance I may become a pilot, if not, there is still chance but I may not apply for it for a year.

If I focus on this exam, I believe I can pass it, but if I focus on it, I have to abandon my masters degree, otherwise I will burn out my brain. I really want to become a pilot, but if this exams blows up, I also want to maintain my engineering degree. I am in a dilemma about which action to take.

What do you guys think? I should study day and night and take my chance with pilot exam(even a chance to blew it up)? Or just focus on my degree till 7th june and hope that they will open new training position in september or october?

I have had to make a lot of these decisions over the years (also an Engineer) and I always would make sure I finished what I started no matter how tempting it is to hurry along the process. You have already started and invested into your Masters degree so concentrate on that and ask about new training opportunities when you are finished. I understand the excitement of accomplishing becoming a pilot, but sometimes it is best to know your limits and concentrate on finishing goals before starting new ones or you risk a. Burning yourself out and losing out on both, or b. Finishing training and it not being all you hoped it would be and not having your Masters for a career path trajectory change.

Good luck,

Grumps

You are on a very good point but the thing is, becoming a pilot needs you to finish your military duty or postpone it at least 2 years. Right now, because of masters degree I have 2.5 years postponed military duty. If I finish masters degree I need to go to military and when I come back, I will be 27.

I can apply to become a pilot only till I am 28 in my country, so I will have only one shot. Also if I win it, having a degree will mean nothing.

On the other hand, I can just burn my brain out in these exact 30 days and work my ass off to accomplish both. If I can, it is good, if not, then at least I will have a relaxed mind in summer with feeling of I did my best.

This seem like a big decision to me, but actually it is not. It shouldn't be. I think I will burn my brain out to risk both.

I believe in the power of taking risks and results of hard work in life. So, to risk both, I will give it a try.

Thank you for heads up.
