irc333 Posted May 17, 2014 Share Posted May 17, 2014 Okay, we talked about regular social clubs in the "guise" of singles groups, but there are events where organizers are completely honest about any given event. Recently the big city near me has been routinely putting on "Singles Mixers" events where they do the whole "Ice breaker" games, speed dating, and a whole host of "singles" "Blind Dating" games where a woman sits facing away from 3 men she's asking questions to, etc. Would this be something you'd be willing to go to, try, or avoid like the plague (even if you're completely unattached)? Just think of it as having a "speed dating" feel to it, but you'll still have an opportunity to mingle/socialize between or after said dating games. Link to post Share on other sites
Disillusioned Posted May 17, 2014 Share Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I've been to some of those, but they weren't really my thing... icebreakers and trivia games etc are ok, but not as effective IMO as specific themes. By that I mean hiking, biking, etc for athletic singles... cookouts and luaus etc for foodies... that sort of thing. There are already a zillion nightclub groups for singles here in L.A., and a lot of singles have tried them and decided they didn't really enjoy standing around with a drink in their hand... but few of them come up with any ideas for alternatives. When I suggested potlucks, some of them oohed and aahed like I'd just invented sliced bread. Anyhow, the idea is to keep trying but don't run yourself ragged... you can always start your own meetup group if you notice something's missing. See a need, fill a need...
