Author Speakingofwhich
Far better than crapping up your system to the point of believing you need to detox it is eating right (living right?) in the first place - organic foods, loads of veggies, limited or no processed foods, natural cleaning (household and personal) supplies, regular exercise, glass food storage containers, etc. Good health is not a part-time endeavor. Guess you didn't read my posts before posting!

martaldn
I am not a fan of this juicing craze. One thing people forget is your bodies metabolism. Don't mess it up. Skipping meals, changing your diet, etc. I'm a grazer, and since becoming one my body has changed, I'm never hungry, I can no longer eat as much in one sitting as I use to be able to, I feel better, I am more fit, more solid, etc. The key to weight loss: Decrease calories slowly, reduce carbs, eat smaller meals many times a day (no more 3 square meals a day), increase your cardio activity (walk, run, yoga, weight train, bike, whatever). And EAT BREAKFAST! So many people skip breakfast, IMHO this whacks up your metabolism. Eat lots and lots and lots of fruits and veggies; organic if you can. you forgot to mention to exercise..
Babolat
Did our ancestors detox, go on crazy fad diets? Think about it? What's different from 150+ years ago to today? They ate their food as close to the, if not at, the raw state as possible. Food came off the plant and onto the plate. An animal was killed and eaten immediately. A fish was caught and eaten immediately. No chemicals, no pesticides, no sitting in a storage bin for weeks, months. Today, by the time food gets to our dinner plate/table who knows where it has been and what's it's been "treated" with. Listen to Chocolat. I too have done a lot of research on food and diet. The best diet today is one that is organic and as close to raw as possible. If I could grow all of my own food, catch my own fish, I would, and I would eat it right off the plant, dirt and all. But, I can't so I have to try to get it as close to it's raw state as possible. When possible buy from local farmers and ask them first how they treat their stuff. Thanks, but if I want to read the reasons why not to do a ten-day juice fast I can google it and probably pull up hundreds of resources that will give me reasons not to do it. And I can probably pull up hundreds of URLs where reasons to do it are listed! I want to do this and I really enjoy focusing on the positives about it! I'm certain I'm in no danger. I just thought it would be fun to share my journey on LS and honestly looked forward to camaraderie for the journey. That's really cool that you've done a lot of research on diet and health! I really enjoy research into diet and health, too! I hope to learn some things from you as I find I can always learn from someone else and it's fun to share ideas and tips! Do you have favorite sites you frequent and trust? One thing I don't do and have wanted to is to support local farmers so thanks for reminding me! Anyway, I'm really enjoying this and I like it! That, in itself is reason enough to do it! Geared up for Day 3! Edited May 21, 2014 by Speakingofwhich
Author Speakingofwhich
I'm trying. I found out what I'm dealing with, and others have dealt with doctors accusing them of being hypochondriacs, or bulimic. I'm going by what I've learned, and going by my own instincts. I saw that a few people moved to the paleo diet, and it helped them, but I'm still iffy on that diet, so am mixing and matching. Well, sometimes it takes awhile to discover what your body needs to heal itself. We're all so different. I have a friend who has gone through this same thing.
Author Speakingofwhich
Day 4! Was offered a bag of Circus Peanuts, crummy to most people but I love them, last night and a bag of caramels, too, that were hard to turn down (especially as I picked them up, held them in my hands and considered what they would taste like!) but thankful to have made it! And thankful there was a friend nearby who encouraged me to stick to my guns! Not that I wouldn't have, anyway. Edited May 22, 2014 by Speakingofwhich
jbelle6
Why not just eat the vegetable? I can't be bothered "juicing" anything, too lazy. If you eat clean all the time there's no need, in my opinion anyways.
Author Speakingofwhich
Why not just eat the vegetable? I can't be bothered "juicing" anything, too lazy. If you eat clean all the time there's no need, in my opinion anyways. I like that the nutrients from veggie juice go straight into the blood stream and you get more vitamins from them than you do from eating the veggie whole (because of digestion process). Also, the challenge part of this appeals to me. Some friends are doing it here and the camaraderie is fun although they began theirs before I did so I'm behind. Another reason is because my son does these from time to time and I like to stay current with experiences my children involve themselves in. Kind of mixed bag as to why I'm doing it, really, in answer to your question. That said, I usually do eat the entire veggie and know the fiber is great for you! Usually I juice once a day first thing in the morning after drinking over a quart of water and eat whole foods (and once in a while treats, I'm not a fanatic) for three meals the rest of the day. But, I wanted to do this challenge for ten days. After that I'll go back to eating whole vegetables for meals. You're so right in that juicing is time consuming! And the clean up (of juicer!) is, too. Have done it for years but usually make the juice two or three days worth at a time so clean up just every three days.
Chocolat
I like that the nutrients from veggie juice go straight into the blood stream and you get more vitamins from them than you do from eating the veggie whole (because of digestion process). If you want to juice, that's fine, but the above statement is untrue. You get more benefit from eating whole veggies (or fruits). GoreSP
I'm fine with juicing. However, I can't see the rational explanation behind drinking only juice - even just for one day. If you want to clean your body. stop eating crap and eat 'clean food' - your body does the rest y itself...

They are apples and oranges, excuse the pun! Chocolat, I'm not really interested in debating the health or nutritional benefits of juicing vs. eating veggies. I consider both beneficial. This thread was created to be about the journey and challenge of doing a ten-day juicing fast, not debating its merits. You might like to start a thread discussing your interest in eating whole veggies vs. juicing veggies, though! I'll bet others would be interested in participating and you seem to have a lot you'd like to share about it! Edited May 22, 2014 by Speakingofwhich

I agree that both can be beneficial. However, you stated something untrue -- "the nutrients from veggie juice go straight into the blood stream and you get more vitamins from them." I simply posted a correction (with a source). Enjoy your juice fast.

Author Speakingofwhich
Day 5 begins. Thoughts of lentils, broccoli, tomatoes, salads, etc., dance around in brain cells where cookie, cupcake and candy fantasies used to play.........
