Author Leigh 87
And the travel and nose job- I get 8000 ish a year through the nanny job alone which is enough for a nose job. Plus the 300 one week and 175 every second week from the weekend job. So i get about 16 k a year in EARNINGS. The aus study is for my youth work diploma which is good to have in conjuction with a degree. It involves 400 hours a year of volunteering. I will need to drag it out over 2 years and pay the extra 150 to drag that diploma out an extra year than you're supposed to. So l am set to make 16 K a year through earnings. Which amounts to a nose job and a shot stint overseas. I also will receive 200 a week aus study which all stays in my bank and only goes towards study or future money making elements ssuch as one nice black interview blouse and pants... a car used to get to jobs and not some luxury car that you use for fun. It's for petrol, a laptop for online study. So far I only do 1 houra week vvolunteer work with kids. Between now and September is my time to fit in my youth volunteer work and get a shift or two at a lo a cafe. Come September I would quit the day job and focus on studyingdduring each day! The youth work diploma was supposed to IN CCONJUNCTION with my degree. Now I have a few months off ffrom my degree I can get some more volunteer work done for the diploma and then I will go back to my degree and put the youth work diploma to the side as a things I work on in the uni breaks! Have you seen a paycheck from ANY of these projected jobs? Can you see that people here are trying to help by bringing you back to earth a little? And can you see how the $200 a week from the government is indeed being spent for personal use? You're simply replacing one dollar for another. It's a big jump to go from volunteering one hour/week to needing 400 hours! Where does the nanny job fit in with all of this, and the cafe, and the patisserie? Is the family you're living with expected to provide companionship to your kitten while you're constantly on the move? Do you have a career advisor by chance?
clia
Today you say this: I am doing a diploma of youth work. It's full time. The actual college degree I have deferred until September. In order to finda third job. Last week you said this: I am doing a correspondence course albeit just one, start full time with the changed degree on the 1st.... Last week you were taking one course -- that is part time study. Did you start school full-time on the 1st? Are you enrolled in school full-time right now and taking classes full-time right now for your diploma? Are you receiving government aid right now for being a full-time student? I'm just trying to understand, because it's very confusing. A lot of this sounds like you are just thinking out loud, and that none of it is actually happening yet.
guest572
I was lucky enough to get gov assistance whilst studying for say 6 months. It went straight onto my course fees and FOOD! No nose job for me!
Author Leigh 87
I was lucky enough to get gov assistance whilst studying for say 6 months. It went straight onto my course fees and FOOD! No nose job for me! I AM NOT SPENDING MY GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE ON NOSE JOBS. The 200 a week is for my youth work diploma which is a full time course but you simply pay 150 per year that you gtake to do it. I just finished one uni course for the semester. I have deferred the 4 other courses I was due to start this week until September. I will do my youth work diploma full time for now. Once I start ffull time college I will do the youth work diploma PART TIME and pay the extra 150 next year to buy extra time to complete this diploma. The diploma is full time but if you have other commitment you can do it part time and lay the 150 fee to take longer than the allocated year to do it. I'm getting 200 a week NOW for the full time diploma I am doing. I SAV that Gov assistance for NECESSITIES like a car, house et . I will also make about 400 this week through my two jobs which I WILL SAVE FOR LUXURIES.

UpwardForward
I don't know why people are so hung up on a 'Contract' for this domestic position. From what you've said - you're using the position just for added income. Not career. Because of school, travel, etc you may not want to consider it as a position under contract .. or permanent. Everyone I know who has a nanny (whether live in or not) has a contract that spells out the responsibilities, hours, holidays, vacation, what constitutes breach or justifies termination, etc. A written agreement helps to eliminate uncertainty between the parties of expectations on both sides. MidwestUSA
I don't know why people are so hung up on a 'Contract' for this domestic position. Hi, UF! I think the concern is for having the actual responsibilities laid out since Leigh will be residing with this family. She is talking about working elsewhere on both weekend days, and picking up yet another job in a cafe. While the nanny job may not be a 'career', it seems like it should be her main focus (maybe because of the live-in factor, I don't know). In other words, if she was a nanny who was slated to show up at 8am and guaranteed to leave at 6pm, Monday thru Friday, it would be much more clear cut what hours she has to dedicate to other endeavors. It is more about protecting herself and knowing what's expected of her, even for a domestic position. And Leigh, I'll reiterate. Try to get one job settled at a time, and then gauge how much more you can take on. This is coming from someone who has experienced severe burnout. Good luck!
Author Leigh 87
I'm finding the role enjoyable and not back breaking by any stretch. Just a matter of dedicating time and being organised, etc. The weekend job is enjoyable and fine too. It's not rocket science just hard work. All cafe style jobs are. Great for fitness and weight maintneance though. The hours in between when I get home from the kids drop offs and have to leave to get them is now clear... I get home at 9 am and leave to pick the child up at 2.45 pm. I then take him home, give him a snack and take him to tthe park for half an hour.... I then pick their mother up from work and then pick the 2.5 year old up from day care. In between my duties I just veg out and wash clothes and hang them up to dry. I am not washing up all day by any means. The family are fine with me getting a job at a local cafe for during the day. I would simply put a load of washing on in the morning and deal with the washing in the evening. I don't have to do all the washing during the day, just putting a lload on in the morning and hanging it up to dry before the kids go to school will suffice. Right now I am waiting until September to start my degree in community development, then a masters in something like social work. In the mean while during the days, I have a few hours to spare...II can secure more volunteer youth work that counts towards getting my diploma of youth work. I currently only do one hour a week of volunteering. ... I also plan to get a cafe job down the street I live in. I'll quit it or cut shifts back only I start by degree in September. I believe that deferring my degree for a few months is ideal as it lets me settle into my new jobs rather than having had to have started both full time college AND full time work all at once. I earn 650 one week and 560 the following week as it stands. 200 of that is Gov assistance which is out away towards a car, a laptop and a house deposit. I WOULD LOVE to get a job at a local cafe- it would yield about 800 a week and take me off Gov assistance. It will be hard to find time to study so i would aim to work every week day until September when I start college again. At which stage I will cut shifts back to twice a week. I have to factor in study towards my future. HHowever, at my mature age I need to also focus on securing full time work and save towards my future.
Conners
I find it weird that they would hire a "live in nanny" and still pay for the child to go to day care - it's not exactly cheap, especially in Australia. What's the point?

Author Leigh 87
Well it sucks working weekends. I work 7 days a week wwith 5 hours a day off during the week in between when i drop kids off at school and pick them up. I have a trial at a restaurant next week that is up my street. Plus there are a LOT of cafes and restaurants around my area. I have to travel hours both sat and Sunday to get to my second job so I am going to focus on getting a job closer to home. I also need to ring my local council and try to get some volunteer work in an area that pertains to my youth work diploma; I need 400 hours to get my diploma. Currently, I only do 1 hour a week of volunteering. ... Then college starts up in September. I would handle studying during the day 5 days a week when the kids aareat school and then working weekends at my current job but again, want something closer. ....to where I live. I have to catch 3 trains and a bus to my current weekend job and it takes an hour and a half each way. There are many places around my area I'm going to apply vigorously for. I find it weird that they would hire a "live in nanny" and still pay for the child to go to day care - it's not exactly cheap, especially in Australia. What's the point? I eat cheap food which they pay for and they pay me 180 a week to drive their kids to school and pick them up 5 days a week which is very convenient for them! They have treated me well so far. They took me out to dinner with their friends Friday and paid for a huge feast. Edited June 11, 2014 by a LoveShack.org Moderator Merge

Best case scenario, perhaps they know of someone (or in their establishment) who could pick you up and take you back.
Author Leigh 87
I will broach that with them. Perhaps I could catch a train to a closer station and then get a lift with the other weekend girl. I really hope to get a job elsewhere though.... closer to home.

Can I just ask, what are you driving the kids to school in that you can't use to drive yourself to work? I may have missed some details, but if this is a long term arrangement you should probably make getting a car of your own a high priority savings goal. Good luck getting a more local job! Author Leigh 87
I got the contract. I get 2 week paid vacation after 6 months! So they will pay me my usual wage while I'm overseas. And after my last trip overseas (as I'm going to save 100% towards my future after one last overseas trip) I'll simply go home to the flat for the paid leave and I'll go stay with my bf ( he lo ex me to visit him 4 hours away in the really nice town in which he lives half the time yet I don't get a chance to go there due to my weekend job being based in Sydney 2.5 hours away). The contract is for 6 months. They will want me to stay if I do a good job of course. Fingers crossed! I am saving 200 a week towards a car and a laptop for imminent college degree (starting September)

Why encroach upon this family to drive their car the extra distance for personal - or another job? And I agree Leigh does need her own vehicle. It just seems the priorities are different in Australia.

But you might look there. I purchased two good laptops at Christmas on sale for $350. ea I know they have other sales/specials through the year. And good name brands.

Most apartments only come with 1 car park (if they do at all)... People in apartments here, park their cars on the street (or wherever else possible). Personal transportation is Imperative here. I'm thinking Leigh's trip times could be shortened if she didn't have to use trains/buses. 'Time is money'.
