"free" access to paid OLD sites?

I just heard a commercial for a "free" weekend on a popular but expensive OLD site.

 

To me that always seemed like a scam. It boosts their membership with real people as opposed to fake profiles but I doubt many of the free members stick around & pay so come next week some person gets matched with them then wonders why they aren't responding.

 

I'm not in the market but was wondering if anybody so much as got a date off one of these free weekends? it usually took me a week or so to get beyond their screening to even get an e-mail or a number.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I did it once. It took an incredible amount of time. Then, I was matched with a 'real' person, who admitted he wasn't looking, but just testing the site/his skills at answering the match stuff over the free weekend.

 

I didn't go back for more.

They will charge you if you don't 'cancel' prior to the end of the free period. If it's the well known site, they're good on their word, but are hoping you'll forget (obviously). At 12:01 am Monday, your card gets charged!

One dating site had free access weekend and I went through all these questions to fill out to be matched up with people to find out that the site doesnt let you see pics. You have to pay to see them. I dont know about everyone else, reading a profile is great, but Im not interested unless i can see what a person looks like. IMO i thought that was kind of a scam.
