Uncontested divorce

Recommended Posts

I need a lot of infos about uncontested divorce. We opted for no court divorce. I am wondering if online divorce websites are legit to help you fill up those legal documents you need to submit to court for filing?

Has anyone here used this kind of service? Please share your experience and knowledge about it.

Thanks!

Someone who represents himself in a legal matter has a fool for a client.

That is all...

Your court will have the most accurate information about an uncontested divorce.

I live in Cali and we used court-recommended mediation to work an uncontested with MSA (settlement agreement) divorce and indeed it did save a lot of money, headaches and time, over a contested divorce. The key is that the parties are amicable and essentially settle everything out before the decision to file is made, since a filing must be answered (contested) in a certain period of time or it goes to uncontested and subject to motions of summary/default judgement.

Your court will have your process available in person or online. I would suggest going to the family court and seeing if they have self-help available. Our court did and they were wonderful in getting the process streamlined.

IMO, there's really no need to use a third party, other than a lawyer or mediator. There's so much accurate (court provided) information out there that most people can grasp the process. I simply had my lawyer review the mediator-drawn MSA a la carte and, with his stamp of approval, we filed the stuff and were divorced the next day. At that time we had three homes, two businesses and the usual 'stuff' that obtains to a long marriage, although we had no children. If the parties are amicable, anything is possible. Good luck!

Depends entirely on where you live. Here in the UK, my boyfriend and his ex had no kids and no property. They got divorced cleanly without lawyers on either side, it's very straightforward in those kind of situations.
