Does God do Justice ???

Recommended Posts

Seems pretty weird to ask this but i am rumbling on this topic since many weeks.

Suppose 2 persons are involved in a realationship which ended due to one person cheating the other and finally dumping for someone better.

Well this is a generic case and lot of us have examples of this but tell me does anyone knows of any instance where the person in the above relationship who was wrong got the punishment for the wrong behaviour or is that the person who did wrong went on to lead a better life and the other person cried for rest of the life.

I Wonder if something like this happens where God does justice.

I think in most scenarios like the one you describe greenhorn, the cheating partner and the one they cheated with rarely lasts. It is a relationship based on deceit. Usually the partner that gets left behind comes out ahead. They go on to find someone else, and someone better since they are wiser from the experience.

Yep you are true Dd..the relationships ends but just i wish to know the person who cheated and dumped for someone good (in terms of money or status) gets his/her penalty for doing this from God or not?

Call it what you want, some call it karma.

But you have two people, one who has no qualms about interfering with a relationship, and one who has no qualms about cheating and "trading up" if the opportunity presents itself. No long term happily ever after prospects there.

Doesn't seem like a very Christian perspective to have. Maybe I'm crazy, but I didn't realize that revenge was a part of the "being a good Christian" concept.

HokeyReligions

I've always thought that "God'll get 'ya for that" mentality was warped. How is that truly comforting? Yet another reason I moved away from religion and became agnostic. So many people I know that claimed Christianity was their guiding light, chose to live without social conscious because they believed that God would mete out some judgment on the ones who hurt them and they took some kind of comfort or pride in that. That's like embracing a negative and has little to do with forgiveness or love. I just felt that was a selfish and ignorant sentiment from those Christians I know who believe that way. It's better to just let go of the person who hurt you.

If a person has been cheated on and they leave the relationship (dumper or dumpee) what does it matter if the cheater has a wonderful life or a crappy one? It's over, it doesn't matter, what happens to the cheater has nothing to do with the victim moving forward with his or her own life.

God is not your personal goombah. If you'll look at your Bible, you'll read that if someone hurts you, you are to turn the other cheek and that you are to forgive seventy times seven times.

Hoke, it's not Christianity's fault that people misinterpret it. Just like the Bible, which does not condemn homosexuality more than it condemns lots of other things, people have chosen to interpret Christianity to suit their own purposes. Which is entirely the fault of humans themselves, not of the faith.

Yeah you all are true..there should not be this concept that "revenge" should be taken...and i didnt raise the point for this particular reason.Just i wanted to know whether there are some kinds of checks or balances in this world or not?

Revenge is not part of any religion but sometimes it happens that you cant do anything to the person who hurt you, you may choose to never see that person or never hear that person but atleast the other person should feel that he or she has done something which was not correct.Atleast this should be there or else one can always justify the wrong deed.

If i murder someone and try to justify it i can very well justify it and move on to do this crime again. So there should be some checks for this and for crimes like homocide we have laws but for crimes like hurting someone we dont have any checks...

So it is not the question of taking revenge but atleast making someone realise for the wrongs that have been done. You can never take revenge on someone you truly loved but atleast sometime you wish that the person knows what he or she did was not correct and it did hurt someone.

So if you're Hindu, why did you post this thread? Shouldn't you pray to Kali for revenge? Or your other God of choice?

(And as a side note - I thought greenlove had posted this. I read the comment, remembered that greenlove had recently proclaimed she found God again and didn't even realize it was you. )

I don't agree that the cheater necessarily trades up. But assuming that's so, who's to say that in the long run the dumpee doesn't end up with someone "better" than the dumper? Would revenge still seem needed then? Or would that even the score?

Yeah Coolaunt thats true ...that would settle the score and this are the things that i wanted to whether it happens or not..i didnt mean that God will come from heaven and do some miracle...

Pocky are you in bad mood today or what ....I didnt know what is "ash-wednesday" so i wished to know about it just out of curiosity..though i am hindu it doesnt stops me from going to church and i dont know whether you believe it or not i have gone to church many a times and Gurudwara(Temple for Sikhs) also.

And it was really interesting to ask me to pray to Kali to take revenge..i am trying to explain that i dont wish to take revenge ..never has that thought crossed my mind to take revenge..i just wanted the other person in the situation i described to realise that he or she has done something wrong....and its not related to me .i just visualised a situation.... :o

I am not that much into praying and all ..seems too difficult for me ..i cant remain hungry in the morning and for praying to hindu god or goddess you need to eat after your prayer...

I once again say i dont have the feeling of revenge ..just that i am contemplating more these days and getting a wee bit religious...

But i found your reply interesting...

(BTW how did you like my avatar ....and i will ask greenlove to change 'his/her/rather not say' name ..shouldnot be that similar to mine )

Bad mood? Odd - I don't recall saying anything bad. I didn't say there was anything wrong with you asking about Ash Wednesday. And I never questioned if you went to church or not.

**Edit **

I realize now what you thought I was saying. I wasn't asking you why you posted the thread on the Ash Wednesday. I was asking why you posted this thread about God, the thread we're talking in now, when you're Hindu. I found it to be confusing so that's why I was asking for clarification.

**Edit**

You asked if God penalized people for what they did to others. Then you stated that you're Hindu in another post. The reason why I made the comment about Kali is that it's a common theme that in Hinduism, if you want something to happen you pray to the appropriate god/goddess or to one of your choice in order to achieve this goal. From what I've studied it seems like Hinduism rarely attributes things to a singular God - like a singular Christian God. I understand that the concept of Brahman exists, but I've always thought that within Hinduism the various forms (sub-deities) (Ganesha, Kali, Parvati, Lakshmi, etc.) were the forerunners in the religion and that God was reached through them. Maybe I'm wrong. I've never lived in a Hindu household. :D

I am not that much into praying and all ..seems too difficult for me ..i cant remain hungry in the morning and for praying to Hindu god or goddess you need to eat after your prayer...

Maybe it's just an overlapping of your Hindu beliefs and your life within a Christian atmosphere. I just found the way you addressed the discussion considering you're Hindu a little confusing. The way you presented your question seemed to lend itself to Judaism/Christianity and not Hinduism.

My question was just a clarification really. Not much more than that.

Oh..ok.. i misinterpreted the things...

Yes you are true..in Hinduism there is god and goddess for each and every occasion and every purpose :) and you know this sunday we have the day to pray to Goddess of Knowledge..(most of powerful deity are goddesses.. :) )

I thought that you were angry due to the concept of revenge cause in one of the thread you had written that you hate this concept of revenge cuase you think that all person are good...so i just assumed it out of this....

Though you have not lived in Hindu household but you have good knowledge of hinduism...and if you wish you can spend one of your vacation in my home :) ...Hmm this reminds me that it almost a year that i went to my home and met my parents...

Hey but tell me how you know this much..kali..parvati...ganesha...

when u have been cheated in a relationship that you cant get out of

1) you learnt to accept this in the other person ...

Why cant u get out of the relationship...becoz u are a housewife with 2 kids for eg.

and sooner or later the person sees ur luv and gives up

when u have been cheated in a relationship....

you know that the other person is immature and needs to grow up

and they grow up and most ppl regret for what they did...

they shouldnt have...but will they come and apologize.... they wont...

i do believe what goes around comes around..and u are punished in some form...

that no heart broken goes unpaid

we may not know the reasons now but we will learn the answers some time...

and then if they dont regret it...arent they still assoles...

when i was with my bf..i had a very strong connection with another man..

he told me..he treats u like ****...u know how much we get along....

why dont u leave him and come to me....

do u know what i said to him?

if i can leavehim and come to u....i can leave u and go to someone else too...

is that the kind of person you want me to be...

he never asked me again

That would probably be rather interesting :)

Religion major. Studying at the University now. We're required to focus on either Judaism, Christianity or Hinduism. My main focus is really Buddhism, but we don't have any professors here to teach enough courses to meet all the requirements for a religion degree so I have decided to study Hinduism. I happen to be studying the Mahabharata this term and I'm working on a project that discusses the concept of Shakta/Shaktism themes found in MBH and Indian culture. :D

Isnt it strange that someone who stopped believing in God at the age of 16 is studying religion and most interesting is that you are studying Hinduism....may be i can teach you few things...

Now i must say that to understand Hinduism better you need to tour India ...so plan your vacation and come to India ..visit the temples ...there are few very near to my home ..and river Ganges flows some 1000 mts from my home...you can take a holy dip in that too he he though i dont remember myself taking a dip....one month a year my mom takes dip daily before sunrise...

So PM me when you are getting your vacation and i would be really glad if you live in my Hindu household and learn more of Hinduism... :)

People would be really happy to know someone is studying Hinduism...By the way i come from that part of India where Buddhism started or in better words where Gautam Buddha took birth and then stayed ..there is a Buddhist circuit developed there where lot of tourist from Japan and adjoining country come ...

Do give this a serious thought...

does God do justice?

yes, in the form of the person who hurt another realizing that what he/she had done was wrong, and he/she asks for forgiveness or makes restitution to "right" that wrong. Justice would be the act of seeking reconciliation or re-membering with the one hurt by that person's actions
