I got punked off for a dog!

Hello All,

Just yesterday I finally had it out with my "best friend". She has been avoiding hanging out with me and I wanted to know why so I asked her (on e-mail) Recently over the past 8 months I noticed that she has been spending more and more time at a girlfriends house (that I introduced her to) and not bothering to call or to visit with me other than our daily contact over e-mail.

You know what she told me? She told me that she hates leaving her dog at home to spend time with me and that she prefers to go to our other friends house because she can bring her dog along and adds that if I wanted to visit with her why don't I just come over to "friends" house?.

I will not allow her to bring her dog to my house because my Father is deathly afraid of dogs - he was attacked too many time as a young child by the neighbors dog.

Would any of you do this to your friend? Am I way off base here or do I have the right to tell her to get stuffed and walk away?

We have been best friends for almost 3 years. I gotta tell you guys - I can't beleive this! How can you punk off a human being for an animal?

:o

I've cancelled dates before because I felt like I was neglecting my dogs and had to spend time with them. I did that last night, actually, I blew off this really nice guy for like the second time in a row.

What can I say? I love my dogs. they are like my children.

blind_otter,

Thanks for your honest reply. Well......now at least you know how the person on the receiving end of your excuse feels.

I am really hurt.....honestly. But to stop hanging with someone over it? I think she just used that excuse to punk me off.

She needs to have a baby.

heh. god forbid. dogs are like violent toddlers.

I'm honest with people - my dogs are really better friends to me than anyone else has been. I love them dearly and I would be crushed if one of them died.

But my friends refer to my house as the wild kingdom. I have three dogs and a cat. I pick up strays. I also used to take my dog dingo all over the place, to my friends houses, etc., and I would usually not hang with people who couldn't handle my dog. I guess it makes me a bad person.

My bestfriend just ditched me because he was freaked out by me having seizures, so I know how you feel.

Friends come and go.

Maybe it's true about her dogs, who knows and who cares.

Find friends that don't own a dog.

Then that person was never a friend, let alone your bestfriend.

You can count with your fingers how many friends you have by how many come to visit you when your in the hospital and your going to have fingers left over.

blind_otter,

You really gotta start looking after yourself girl! I have quietly read many, many of your posts. I almost wish we were closer so that I could give you the support you need to get off of the coke or just support for whatever reason.....Life is Tough.

I have been there.......I KNOW how you feel

What are you doing about the seizures?

I think your friend is using the dog as an excuse. You mean to tell me that in EIGHT MONTHS there isn't once she could see you without the dog? ? ? ? ? Did something happen between the two of you eight months ago? Was it eight months ago that you introduced her to the other friend?

I think that if never of you can pick up the phone to chat nor visit each other, call it a day and move on, because it seems that the friendship isn't a mutual feeling.

Her dog is three years old. Yes, the problems started when I introduced her to my other friend. As a matter of fact my best friend did'nt even like this other girl until I spoke to her and told her to give her a chance (you know the old saying don't judge a book by it's cover.

You know.....the older I get? The less and less I like people!

the older i get the fewer friends i have - which explains the absurd attachment to my dogs.

I also used to hang less with my real friends when I was doing drugs more...hrm.
