tuxedo cat
I lost my job and have been struggling to eat for the past week and a half since. Every day I wake up with a knot in my stomach and no appetite. I try to do good things for myself like work on my resume, apply to other jobs, call friends...but it doesn't help. Usually by about 6pm I will start to feel a bit hungry and I'll try to eat something but I only get about halfway through the meal before I feel sick. I have lost 7 lbs and I'm already thin (5'6" and 118 lbs, female). Any advice?
amaysngrace
That is how I deal with stress too The best thing I do in times like that is eat the best food I possibly can to nourish my body. No junk food but as much nutrition you can pack into a meal. Maybe a baked fresh flounder filet with a side of steamed veggies with cheese on top or something like that? I'm sorry that you lost your job

I'm sorry that you lost your job This is good advice and Id agree... That being said.....sometimes stressful times can be mitigated by some "feel good" food....Stuff you wouldnt normally eat(like greasy fried chicken-yumm) a pepperoni pizza, or something like a fat, juicy cheesburger or a plate of macaroni amd cheese... I have a very tight diet and always try to eat clean, but sometimes when the stresses of life agitate the hell out of me, I put aside the dry chicken and rice and cottage cheese and have something greasy and yummy...Takes a bit of the edge off it...just dont overdo it and you will be fine.. Sorry for your job woes...hang in there.. TFY
learning_slowly
You lost your job and hopefully it wasn't your fault. But even if it was, even the most successful people made mistakes. The secret here is to bounce back as fast as possible. That means you need energy to find your new job and go out to meet friends, so that when you go to interviews you are still social. So you owe it to yourself to eat as much as you can to look healthy. Eggs are a good choice if you don't have much money and you can buy chicken breast in bulk on the web. Both are healthy protein choices. Add your choices of carb and some veg. Don't give up. You're as good as anybody else
EasyHeart
I agree with what everyone else said. I'll just add that people who are anxious sometimes have trouble chewing or feel sick after eating because the food feels like a lump in their belly. (My niece gets like this. ) Try making a milk shake or a meal replacement drink like the weight lifters use. It's not as healthy as flounder and veggies, but it will keep your weight up until you get back on your feet. Liquids are easier to eat and digest than solid foods.
Anela
I've lost my appetite a couple of times this year - once, I ate some food, because I was starving, only for it to come right back up (as has been the case with a lot of things over the past few years, but this was just awful). I made smoothies, out of coconut milk or almond milk, coconut oil, flax oil, berries, bananas... the last time, I drank gatorade, and ate a pudding or two every day, because I'd been sick, and didn't have the energy to make smoothies. Pudding goes down easily. You could also try making soup, and pureeing it in a blender, so that you don't have to chew.

I have lost 7 lbs and I'm already thin (5'6" and 118 lbs, female). Any advice? First of all, I am so sorry to hear that. *hugs*. I lost my job in December and my kitty just a few days later. We were forced to move from our apartment and out of the area. It was a difficult time and happened just a few days before Christmas no less! On Christmas eve, we were taking our dead kitty to be cremated. lost 5 pounds myself. I think I was more depressed than anything. You will get through this. If you think it will help, go and talk to your doctor about daily maintenance anxiety or depression medication. Buspirone has really helped me get through it. JDPT
I'm the total opposite. I usually rush the fridge when anxiety kicks in.
Miss Awesome
I have to disagree with those who said to avoid junk food. When you have no appetite and can't bring yourself to eat enough, then when you feel hungry for something, junk food or healthy, eat it! Try to keep some high-calorie foods around so that when you do eat, you can get some calories even if you can't finish.
