I admit I don't know the whole story, if the OP means this guy is physically abusing her yeah she needs to get rid of him. If not, it depends on what she means if we are talking emotional abuse. I'm not saying that type is any better, but there could be reasons he is distant that have nothing to do with the OP. Of course it could be he is losing interest in the relationship.
