I'm hoping this thread will give people a better idea of where to look. Feel free to post for past relationships/marriages as well.

At a grocery store, on the bread aisle as a matter of fact. He asked me where the cereal was. I know, I know. This story is so romantic Jane Austen eat your heart out .

I 'met' my exW on an early online dating site called 'Matchmaker' where she apparently found my short blurb on my travels to the FSU/CIS interesting, as her ancestors were from that part of the world, and we met up and it went from there.

Just out of curiosity, how did you or him manage to keep the conversation going?

I met most of my exes when I worked part-time jobs through high school and college. I was a cashier at various places.

Well we met on OKC. I messaged him first. He is only 1 of 2 people I messaged (I was on for 2 days lol) and the only person either of us went on a date with from there.

Every single one of my SO's were introduced to me by girlfriends. The friends knew these men from their workplace or they knew him socially through a social connection separate from the one they had with me (all this was before Face Book).

Even the man I lost my virginity to was b/c I was in a restaurant (he was a busboy :o) that I would never have gone to except for being with my friend that day.

Now I'm on Face Book & haven't had one single man "friend" me!!!

TMI for this post?

Met current bf on OKC. He was the last guy I spoke with on there before I deleted my account. Wasn't expecting to hear from him, but he contacted me 2 weeks later and here we are. Met my longest relationship randomly on Myspace, lol. And another bf I met at a hotel. He worked at the front desk and I had stayed there overnight for a wedding.

The man I'm dating most right now- not BF/GF status yet, or just on the verge maybe- I met at my friend's birthday party. He was there because he's her BF's friend.

I smiled, pointed him in the right direction, admitted that I too found the store confusing, we had a laugh but then he walked a way. I was a bit miffed but maybe about 45 seconds later he returned and sheepishly asked me if I lived in the neighborhood, to which I indicated I did. He said he was new in town, then he asked me if I was "there alone" a ridiculous question on the face of it given that we were at a grocery store and not a bar but of course I took it to mean he was asking whether I was single.

We chatted for a bit but about what I have no idea. Surface stuff for sure though, I think I asked where he was from originally, stuff like that. It was actually pretty awkward. He was shy and I was in a bit of a hurry and tired of Sara Lee's judgmental eyes glaring at me  so when he asked me lord knows what I asked him pretty bluntly if he was hitting on me. He said of course, asked me for my number and that was that.

To be fair, several things came into play that helped: 1) before he ever opened his mouth I saw him checking me out out of the corner of my eye for quite some time so I pretty much knew he was interested and 2) we ran into each other at another store about 20mins after that so we had a good laugh about that and talked a bit more. If that happened on a Saturday we went out maybe that Tuesday, things went well and long story shortened a bit, it's been very nearly a year to the day now.

Gotta admit the way you two met makes it sound pretty straightforward and easy yet very few guys will actually have confidence to go through with it. You've given me a lot of good ideas! Thanks :)

At work. As in, working together.

And that applies to every guy I've dated in the past 8 years or so. Work is very much my dating pool... It helps that I'm a freelancer and keep changing jobs.
