Abs are NOT necessarily made in the kitchen....

 

While any muscle group shows better with less subcutaneous fat, abdominals are a muscle group, like anything else..Along with good genes, they WILL respond to hard work...I have pretty deep and well developed abs...theyll show pretty well, even at bf levels of 15+%...If I am around 10%(which technically isnt ripped), they will show, even under a close fitted T shirt...

 

Want well developed abs? Forget the endless situps and focus on core strength movements..You will get more developed abs than from crunches and situps..

Very true about core exercise. Combine that with a solid back training regimen too. Don't forget the cardio work. Nobody knows what great abs look like when they are covered by an unhealthy body.

 

I would argue against forgetting the situps and crunches. People are way too numbers focussed and rep crazy when it comes to ab work. Technique and variety of ab workout is much more important to me.

 

Need to remember to breathe properly and squeeze on both the negative and positive.

I can't speak for Eau Claire but I'd imagine what got her hackles up is rocket's assumption that women don't like huge muscular guys because those women are jealous and fat. Rather than the actual truth which is that overtly muscular is rather unattractive.

 

It maybe for you, but if you go to a nightclub when you're overtly muscular, you get a lot more female attention than when you're skinny. I could hypothesise that women's tastes are changing, but I've got lots of compliments from older women too?

True...

 

Who cares what a woman thinks anyway? I never trained a day in my life with the intention of making myself more attractive to the opposite sex...I like strength training and build muscle very easily..That being said, as a guy that is heavily muiscled, I can tell you that NEVER once have I heard a single complaint from any woman about my physique...Exactly the opposite, as a matter of fact..

 

Now, TBH, I am not one of those guys that wears short sleeved shirts in January or walks around looking like I am carrying a set of luggage under my arms either..:rolleyes:..Those guys are just morons and more often than not, those guys have a shytty physique anyway...

 

 

I relate this concept to the women who say size of a man's dick doesnt mean anything...Thats usually because their guy is small and they dont want to feel like they are missing out on anything...

Yes...Some of us men prefer a tight a$$ as opposed to something jiggly like jello, as well as a toned body

I think the 10-12% range looks best but 15% is also acceptable.

 

I used the handheld body fat scanner at my gym, and it says that I'm at 18%. My bathroom scale says I'm at 22% and I look like I'm around 25% :(

 

Having visibly defined abs would be amazing, but it's a hard goal.

It's not a hard goal at all....in order for abs to be visible, there has to be less fat in that area, simple as that.

 

So how do you go about it? Cut out sugar complete i.e. stop drinking pop/soda/etc. Then cut down on your carbs and junk food in general

 

You have to go into a deficit i.e. lose more calories than you are consuming

None of those methods are reliable.....

 

 

if you really want to determine your true BF % you need to find someone who knows how to use a bodyfat caliper...If they do, you will get a pretty accurate measurement...

 

And only losing bodyfat wont guarantee visible ab development...Unless you are genetically gifted they will have to be built/developed like any other muscle group.

Yeah I had the idea that none of those methods are reliable when the results were so varied and I don't match the pictures.

Of course not.

 

But with a layer of fat over the abs, they won't be visible no matter how developed they are.

No it's not...it is a matter of having self discipline and determination, or ridiculously as easy as putting something in your mouth everyday...which we all do right? Some of us more than others

Very true. how women downplay, we dont like big muscular guys and my ex said the same thing but the truth was furthest from the truth. she enjoyed that I took care of myself and I was muscular. it made her jealous though. I asked her to take some pics of my progress in the bathroom and after she got pissed off that I would show them off in FB or to girls.

 

all I know is the bigger I get, the more options there are with women. women love big muscular guys. I dont believe a womens opinion at all because the eyes say it all.

Having a muscular look can be far from being "too" muscular. I'm not here to tell other guys how to shape their own body, just saying what I have seen that works best for me. I am not "too" muscular, but I am far from skinny. It works for me and I can say it works far better than when I was more closer to being "too" muscular.

 

I listen to women's opinion about what they like from men with a grain of salt. Just remember what they say they like and what will actually work can be two different things. This is not to say that what they say they like wouldn't in fact work better than what is working on any particular girl. In my experience, strong, fit, somewhat muscular works better overall. This does not mean "too" muscular won't work well with a good number of women, just that you'd probably do even better if you were just strong, fit and somewhat muscular looking.

(FYI, they look like bodybuilders without some weird bodyfat% goal and totally asymmetrical and I am totally into it)

Having the necessary level of self-discipline and determination is precisely why it's a hard goal.

 

For the vast majority of us, completely cutting out sugar means a huge diet change.
