Good (Not Hungry) Days and Bad Days

I'm 41 and struggling with losing weight and lifelong yo-yo dieting. I'm trying again this year, and have lost only 7 pounds so far. I would like to lose 30 pounds to get to my final goal.

I mostly try to be more active, taking a 45 minute brisk walk nearly every day. If the weather is too hot or rainy, I do a really fun Zumba dance video, which according to my SparkPeople tracker burns much more calories than just walking. Lately, on my walks I will run for about a block or so down the road. I'm trying to increase the running little by little so hopefully I can do more running than walking.

Foodwise, I'm struggling. Yesterday, I had a good day because I took a walk/jog and it made me thirsty for water. I wasn't hungry one bit. My husband and kids picked up a pizza from Pizza Hut, and I was a little annoyed about it. I feel sabotaged. So I went in the bedroom and read, drinking my water, and told them I don't even want to SMELL that pizza. I was truly not hungry for it or even for dinner, for that matter. I munched on carrots and string cheese before bed, and was fine.

Yet other days, I'm ravenously hungry and can't stand limiting it to only 1200 to 1500 calories a day! I always heard that if you eat too few calories, like 1000 to 1200 a day, your body fights back to make your metabolism low. But the scale won't MOVE for me unless I only eat that amount consistently, and take daily long walks or do the Zumba videos. The exercise part is fun. It makes me feel great! The eating part makes me feel deprived most days, except those rare days I'm not hungry.

Great to hear you are trying

That is the start

now as for calorie counting (and the word diet)

Stop - -it only sets you up to fail or get upset and quit

just try - -try to eat right (if they bring home a pizza and you say no -- it is a mind game that you are not going to win) - -have a slice -- but just one

do you dance -- burn it off -- it took years to pack it on

it's a long race to get it off

good luck -- keep me updated

Ohhh - and get a daily log of what you eat and do (web MD has a great daily log)
