I realize everyone's body weight fluctuates day-to-day but mine seems to be more so. I can weigh between 123lbs to 127lbs in a 4 day span (i.e. one day I am 123 lbs, the next day 125 lbs, the next day 127 lbs, then the next day back to 123 lbs).

 

I do drink a lot of coffee flavored drinks so I'm sure that has something to do with it. And, recently became a 'Pescetarian' so sometimes I eat soy based products that have a bit of sodium. I notice I feel more (sorry to be graphic) gassy :o bloated since cutting out meat. :(

 

What to do?

Why does it matter? Some of that weight can just be water and it can also be that you're not hydrated.

 

My brother in law sweats 14 lbs out in one basketball game. Three pound fluctuation is really not that big of a deal, especially if it goes up and down regularly.

if you are concerned, see your family doctor just to make sure everything is okay.

 

Ordinarily I give this advice myself but it's a fluctuation of up and down by a few pounds. It's not significant weight gain or loss in one direction only. That should be a concern. No doubt.

 

But typically a few pounds fluctuation is water weight.

I go to the chinese buffet on rare occasions and come back a good 4-5 pounds heavier from all the salt. 2 days later I'm a pound less than I started off since I haven't ate since then. Nothing to worry about.

Agreed...

 

Also consider this...

 

Cheap scales that are found in most people's bathrooms are notoriously inaccurate...especially the digital types...They will fluctuate, even with changes in atmospheric pressure...

 

Its also absolutely vital to weigh yourself in the exact same conditions every single time to assure repeatability and avoid variables..I am a fit and robust 215 lb man, but I lose 2-4 lbs just from the time I lay my head on a pillow til the time I wake up...despite not consuming(or releasing) anything..

 

I dont think there is too much to worry about, but I do say this with the disclaimer that I am not a professional, just giving anectodal experience.

They're still studying the affects of soy on thyroid hormone production. Be careful about consuming too many soy isoflavones if you're taking any synthroid/levothyroxine or have a family history of hypothyroidism.

 

Thanks grrrrl! :bunny: Those were some of my thoughts/concerns too. Normally I wouldn't care but it's increased since going veggiefishsoy.

Salt and water consumption, and normal water weight fluctuation (plus how recently you've done number two... yep, TMI, but true...) can account for 3 lbs easily. For women this increases due to your cycle, so 4 lbs is pretty much par for the course.

My weight fluctuates by around 2lbs. I still freak out when I see 2lbs weight gain and make sure to reduce calories next couple of days. It's hard to know when it's just water vs genuine weight gain.
