I was so saddened today to hear about Robin Williams' death today. Having seen so many of his movies and comic skits, I really felt like I lost a family member. I also started to think about how brief this life is. Sure, you can say it's the quality of years not the quantity, but honestly the Bible says it best:

"What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." (James 4:14)

In light of Robin Williams' death, I've felt the Holy Spirit remind me to focus on the eternal. We need to repent. We need to change our minds about this world. We cannot live for this world. There is a new one coming. It's not one that will be brought in my man. It will be brought by God, himself. Are you ready? Even if you're young and in the peak of your health, it's all the more reason to be ready. Think about how much you can use your strength and youth for God's kingdom. We all need to change our minds. That's what repent really means. We are in this world but this is not our home. If you haven't repented then you need to. Don't listen to the teachings of mankind. Go right to the Word of God and learn yourself. Pray for the Holy Spirit to teach you. He will teach you all truth. Have a blessed day.

:( I'm so sad about this. :(

Depression is a real thing. I think some people, who don't suffer from it, don't understand that it can be very real and debilitating. And while it's a real phenomenon, I think our culture can be so misguided about its origins.

IMO, depression is a major tool of the dark forces that are at play in our lives. :( A tool that so easily gets us to turn our minds away from what's good, and focused on the hopelessness of the human condition. Dark forces are often close at hand, waiting to steal our joy and cut off our relationship with God. I agree with the OP...we must be prepared. Prepared to defend our souls from these unhealthy spiritual forces.

I pray Robin Williams was able to turn away from that darkness, even if it was just in his very last moment in this life. I pray he cried out to God.

Martin Luther (not King) believed that suicide wasn't an automatic sentence to hell. I agree with him.

I agree as well. I won't be surprised if I meet even Judas in heaven. :o

I know! But I still think his best roles were in drama. I posted this particular one in another thread but I'll post it again:

You both (correction, you three) have no idea how needed your posts are, and I'd like to add for anyone who is seeking and even if you're not, it can't hurt to ask God to reveal Himself to you. Asking, even if it's not sincere, if You're real make it plain and clear.

I realize that some may think this is inappropriate, but IMO God is always more than happy to reveal Himself. There have been times as a Christian that I've asked for truth in various matters and He's always revealed His truth.

The things that we, meaning mankind, think are important really aren't. Concerning Robin Williams, I called my daughter and cried while telling her...and am all messed up behind his death. Her first words were (based on the theory that he did commit suicide), wow, see money means nothing when you're hurting that bad.

By all accounts, he was left alone by the media, meaning he didn't endure the negative press/tabloids like most celebrities...he is basically loved by most. He was talented, funny, highly intelligent, fortune, fame...you name it.

This life just isn't it and IMO time is short, possibly even shorter than we think.

That put a smile on my face, thanks.

My brother was valedictorian and they told him the same thing: no mention of God, the Bible, or prayer. Unfortunately he followed their rules. But I don't think it was in his heart to do otherwise. He's a very meek person.

Tackling the topic of depression is much like trying to climb Everest for me. "We" have created a world of disconnected, self-serving, entitled and lazy people that go into a tail spin of situational depression when their perceived needs aren't met but in reality it is their wants.

What you say is true on many levels, HOWEVER to assume someone with clinical depression hasn't tried is naive, judgmental and wrong (I am making a statement NOT directly responding to anything you wrote pie2). They can't! If I have one more person tell me that spirituality and a relationship with God will lead a depressed person back to a normal state I may exchange the Christian hat for a bat. It is a tool NOT the solution. It can be very useful in the prevention of a cycle but once a person travels so far down the rabbit hole, the light can't reach them.

what can depression be,

i know what depression means to me,

for others it night not be the same,

when a person is depressed there is no shifting blame,

there's a loneliness a darkness a void of happiness,consuming sadness

there's the time and weeks and years, when you cant see you have been blessed,

theres a lack of light a lack of hope no touch that can reach,

no white sanded daydream of a forgotten deserted beach

theres pain little gain from the dawning of a new day,

the blue skies lose their hue and i have lost my way,

i dont know what depression means or means for you,

i just know how low i can go and what i have been through,

its when i can no longer write,

its when for the life of me,

i cannot fight,

no more,

no love of distant shores

or i cant help others rise above too,

this is what depression is to me but i know its not for you

depression is when i am just here breathing and i am not in what i do.

i am not depressed today and havent been this way,

and i wont be low tomorrow and i see blue skies i have to say,

havent felt low i have been blessed for such a very long time,

rest in peace robin williams for you i wrote this rhyme

wow, deb. What a moving post. And an incredible poem. I hope someone else might be able to read this and know that there can be light after the dark times. (((hugs))) to anyone who has known the emotional lows of life.
