Buying underwear as a sign of cheating?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here and have a question. It might be kind of silly but here it goes. A friend and I were looking up signs of cheating. She is thinking her boyfriend might be cheating on her. Heres the reason. He bought new underwear! I did see that as a sign on the list, but I don't get that. Eveyone needs new underwear sometimes. How is it that that can be a "sign?" Is it meaning if its often?

I told her that most of the time if someone is cheating they usually show a consistant pattern in what they are doing, and theres probably more than just one thing they are doing too. She told me she understood, but about 1 month ago he bought new underwear, then just last week he bought another pair. (nothing special, just plain underwear) She said they were still in the pack and in the dresser drawer. Looks to me like if he bought them to wear for someone else, he would have them out of the pack and on.

Anyway, I guess my question is, why is that even a sign? She seemed to be ok until running across that as a possiblity. She told me she asked him why did he buy another pair of underwear last week when he just bought some about 1 month ago. She said, he looked at her real funny and said because he needed some. Anyway, if anyone can shed some light on why buying underwear would be a "sign" of cheating it would be great, thanks so much.

Uh.. Well as you said, when someone is cheating there are typically more signs than "Sweet Mother of God, he bought new undies"

I've heard it said before that sometimes when a guy is cheating he may change his grooming habits.. in order to be more attractive to the other person he's persuing.. this could include buying new clothes, new cologne, getting a new hair cut.. whatever.. but yeah.. IF the only thing he's done is buy some new underwear out of need.. it isn't a wonder he looked at her like she'd lost her damn mind in asking him why..

I'm with Pockey.. I buy new stuff all the time and it doesn't mean I'm cheating.. just means lifes to gdamn short to wear bad panties :p

If you leave it up to us women everything would be a sign of cheating!!!!!!

Unless your friend's bf is a dirty a** and has never bought a pair of underwear in his life she should not worry just yet.

When I was married, the new undies were a sign. Now a lot has to do with the newness or oldness of the relationship, but my wife of nearly 10 years would never wear sexy undies. One day, I was doing the wash and discovered a new set of black thong panties. OK, new undies not a real issue but to go from the bikini cotton to a teeny thong was a BIG change.

I questioned it and eventually it did pan out that she was indeed cheating and she was trying to look better for this guy.

So undies in and of themselves, not really, but you may want to keep an eye peeled for other signs.

Sorry to be a bummer!~

my boyfriend has had an unopened package of brand new socks on his dresser for a while now...

when i ask him why he doesn't open them and wear them when he has no clean socks left, he says " well i have to wash these dirty ones anyway..."

i hope he's not...*gulp* cheating on me...

i think if he's buying underwear, working out more ,caring how he smells&changing habits too many changes at once then maybe, but maybe not sometimes people go through improvement phases.

my xmm always wore same style underwear 3years into affair !!then one time i requested him to wear those sexy silky ones ,he did &liked them kept wearing them.

and as far as signs some men are good at hiding affair ,you may not always get changes&he's f****g everyone in sight depends on the guy.

xmm was never busted A lasted almost 4years,so you can never be sure but if i couldn't trust someone&always had to worry ,i wouldn't stay in that situation life is way too short to waste w/h someone you cant trust.

I have heard of "buying new underwear" as a "sign" too. I have read that on the internet as well as in books. However, they are just "signs" not 100% proof one way or the other. Most people when cheating etc will do things on a consistant basis or pattern. If they are the same kind he normally wears then hes probably not. Like soccor said though if they are a totally different kind from what he normally wears then yes I would say that might be kind of odd.

Girldown......"Never saw that as a possible sign. "Gulp" keep an eye on it though.......you just never know do you? sheeesh!

Same brand of undies he's buying?

Geeze, maybe they had more skid marks than an airport runway?

I always took the sign of buying new underwear as the person not wanting any "evidence" to remain in his old underwear. So they throw old ones away. Hence, buying new underwear. ;)

I think the difference is - and I could be wrong - that men don't spend a lot of money on undies or a lot of time shopping for them like women do, unless of course, he's a metrosexual or something.

I have heard of that being a sign too. However, if thats the case, everytime I highlight my hair, I might be cheating. Everytime I buy new clothes, I might be cheating. Everytime I go to the gym to workout I might be cheating. Point meaning just because someone buys something new, trys something new, etc doesn't always mean anything. My husband buys new underwear from time to time as I'm sure most people do, so unless she notices major changes, I would say hes probably not.
