Els
Coconut oil was actually used as cheap cooking oil, back where I come from. The people that could afford it, switched to olive oil or other oils with lower levels of saturated fat, but many street hawkers would use coconut oil. Coconut oil has one of the highest %s of saturated fat compared to other oils, and raises blood cholesterol levels, so consume with caution and in moderation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coconut_oil , view the citations (WHO, FDA, NHS, etc). Applying to hair and other topical use is fine. Apparently it's pretty good for the hair, and moisturizes the skin well, if you don't mind the greasy effect. Also works as a repellent against sand fleas, if you ever need that... Edited August 27, 2014 by Elswyth
sdrawkcaB ssA
I use it in making popcorn. It helps keeping stretch marks down for pregnancy. Some suntan and body oils use it. Crisco is where it is at!!!!

compulsivedancer
Veggies cooked in coconut oil taste really good. I wouldn't use it on my face, as it clogs the pores. Grapeseed oil was my favorite for my face, but do some research as it depends on your skin type.
Phoe
Awesome stuff, great overall benefits. My mom has arterial disease and has chronic dry skin on her feet from lack of blood flow. After years of just dealing with it she rubbed some coconut oil on her feet and discovered that she finally found something that worked to keep them from getting dry Great for consumption too. Plenty of people put a spoon in their coffee. Healthy fats in moderation are great for us I wouldn't use it on my face though. Clogs pores. For the face I'd recommend looking into the difference between oleic and linoleic acids in certain oils. I use pumpkin seed oil on my face and hair/scalp. My skin loves it
Molly01
I use it for hot oil massage for my hair. My sister uses it while making pancakes, I haven't tried it yet.
