At a lost in this situation.

Indifference

I apologize that this post might be bit long, but I’ll be grateful to anyone who takes the time to read it all.

So over the past 2 weeks, I’ve been thrusted with something completely unexpected. A girl, let's call her 'Amelia' needed help looking for a place to stay as she plans to finish her undergrad in this city. Through her parent’s connection with mine, she ended up temporarily staying at our place (I still currently live with my parents) with her parents while we tried to help her look for an apartment elsewhere. Long story short, that didn't end well, and she now currently resides here until perhaps this semester ends.

At first, we had a lot of interaction (mainly due to assisting her in settling within a new city), made some small talk, random discussions here and there. She is a sweet girl and I appreciated hearing her insight / outlook at life. I normally have some horrible social anxiety, but I keep telling myself "**** it, let's try and be supportive as she's dealing with settling in a new city and all". Now, personally, I find her cute, has a lovable personality, and she's only a year older than I am. I ended up developing feelings for her, at the time, I didn't know she had a boyfriend. So after a few wishful thinking later, she brought up her boyfriend casually when we were texting, my bubble bursted and my emotional stability blew up. I know, this is probably affecting me a bit more than it should, but it's been around 4 years since the end of my 2 year relationship with another girl. I've been a lonely sap, but school, work, and friends have kept me distracted fairly well.

A week has passed, classes have now started, and her parents have recently flown back, leaving her in a house with 3 strangers (my parents, and I). Since she has somewhat settled, our interaction have lowered, as there’s not too much common interest between us. So now I’m in a rather uncomfortable position, as I worry how she’s taking it, she has no friends as of yet in this city, being cooped up in a house with perhaps nothing to do. I also now have to deal with emotional instability on my part for developing feelings for her (I suppose being lonely can do all sorts of things to a person…). She already has a boyfriend and probably doesn't have much interest in me. Talking to her, or rather, keeping a conversation going is nearly impossible due to our lack of common interest. Well, I’m just at a lost in this situation, and hopefully I can gain some insight or advice on how to proceed.

Dear Indifference

Being that you have highlighted your differences in that 'She already has a boyfriend and probably doesn't have much interest in me. Talking to her, or rather, keeping a conversation going is nearly impossible due to our lack of common interest' should tell you that it's high time that you started looking for a girl who doesn't have a boyfriend, who is interested in you and that you have plenty of common interests with. I think what this situation has highlighted is that you have been out of the game for way to long and that she reminded you to start looking for someone whom you can call your own.

All the best - Bud.

Haha, it was most certainly a reminder -- enough to throw my mental state out the window. Logically, I came to that conclusion as well, but emotions don't always follow logic sadly :(.

And you're under no obligation to entertain her. It is awkward for both of you and might cause problems with her man. So just let her do her thing.
