pureinheart
It is both. To those Islamists it is very definitely about THEIR religion being in Complete Power and Control. The reason I discount the religion aspect is due to believing they are not human, but that's another topic and also know how strange this sounds, but M30 has posted some compelling threads backed up with Scripture. No human IMO could commit such atrocities...
Disillusioned
I think this is a straw man parable. I know zero Christians who think like the person in the story. Believe it or not, some do. Some really believe God can hijack a surgeon's scalpel hand during a lifesaving operation.
windows
I believe God answers all prayer - sometimes with a "yes", a "no", a "not now/yet" or "wait, I've got a better idea!" I would pray and act in faith that God's going to do what's right - whatever choice I make next. If it is about something outside my control - I can trust that whatever the outcome - God will carry me through it. Edit: In response to the OP - hang in there and keep trusting God. Things might not turn out how you want, but that's okay. With God, He will always carry your burdens, and we don't always have the full picture of God's plans. Trust trust Him in the meantime. M30USA
Jesus prayed to the Father that, if possible, he wouldn't have to endure death and crucifixion. However, he said, "Not my will, but your will be done." Jesus' prayer was technically not answered. This is a profound mystery and it serves as the ultimate example to all of us. Last Thursday I sat beside my brother, age 43, as he died from a premature stroke. I prayed that he would be healed. God didn't answer me. I trust that he had a bigger purpose for my brother's death. God bless you, friend.

travelbug1996
I simply pray for God's will and not mine to be done in my life. It keeps me from having expectations on God. I remember being out of work and down to my last unemployment check, I had worked in Corporate HR and was looking for a job. I thought it was in my plan to work in HR BUT GOD sent a woman in my path that shared some info with me and I now work with babies with disabilities. I love my job and I make almost 3 times what I made in HR. And I'm completely self employed. Always remember- You can plan but you can't plan the outcome. Let Go--- Let God

VanessaVanessa
Recently I've lost hope in my prayers. I was sure I was going to be answered about a theme on relationships I have had. I was sure that a year wouldn't go by without having clarity about my situation, I was hopeful that I wouldn't still be confused at this time of the year. I have been as specific as possible in the prayers, thinking maybe I needed to be sure of what I wanted toknow. But I am not any more assured. I have tried and it just seems like there is nothing to show for it. I have started some meditations in the past few nights, trying to remain from just getting real down. I feel very empty about the whole thing now.
AtraXion
Hello there. There are times that you think that God is not answering your prayers. But I'm sure He's doing something. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 A Time for Everything There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. God will answer your prayers in the right time, so pray persistently. But always remember that faith without action is dead. Just Trust God.
mightycpa
It's either a hyperbole or a straw man story. Actually, it's a joke told to make a point. Perhaps you missed the point of the story. It is to take the opportunities that arise and not to wait for the one you're looking for.
Arieswoman
xyzisnotme, I wonder if my prayers are being answered with my bad marriage and chronic unemployment. I have to come to terms that the prayers probably have not been answered. I am very confused. I am sorry you are having a hard time of it at the moment, but asking God to sort out your problems isn't the answer. Let's pretend that the clouds parted and God threw a blinding beam of light your way and all your problems were solved. What would you learn from that? Nothing of course. How would it equip you for tackling other problems in your life? - It wouldn't. While God loves us unconditionally, He usually operates a policy of non-interefere. He wants the best for us, but leaves it up to us to figure out the way, using the intelligence He gave us. I would suggest that you pray for strength and wisdom to find solutions to your problems. You might like to talk to your spiritual advisor about this. Good luck. PS. In the meantime this might help you... http://www.tscpulpitseries.org/english/undated/tssixrea.html Edited October 15, 2014 by Arieswoman Additional information
M30USA
Let's pretend that the clouds parted and God threw a blinding beam of light your way and all your problems were solved. What would you learn from that? Nothing of course. Bingo. What you just said here explains so many mysteries. God wants us to be part of his revelation. We only truly believe something when we (at least partly) discover it ourselves. Then it becomes "ours". This is also why God even makes prophecies and signs slightly veiled: so that only those who are actively seeking will see the signs, while everyone else is saying, "Huh? What?" The best example of this is the Flood of Noah. It came as a complete surprise to most of the world. They were living their lives normally right up until the time the flood waters came. Only those who were both given the revelation and pursued it were aware of it before it happened. Jesus repeatedly said this is how it will be at his second coming.
