MWC_LifeBeginsAt40
I want to do something FUN with my kids this year for spring break at the end of March. Something a little more exciting than staying in a hotel with waterslides, but not much more expensive. Any ideas? Any other ideas? They are 8 and 10. I'm planning a 3-4 day excursion. Author MWC_LifeBeginsAt40
haha...camping....heeeeheeeeee i love it!!!!!!!!! Ever been to the Canadian prairies in spring? Actually I was going to ask them tonight what they would like to do. Every year they complain because their friends get to stay in a hotel with waterslides, which is why I'd kind of like to one-up that idea.
laRubiaBonita
not been to canada YET! well, i am sure there are pools you could just visit, that have water slides..... cheaper than staying in a hotel just for that. Maybe not, it would have to be indoor.... but you could just got to the pool too. you could go horseback riding. i would try to do many different things, i am sure as long as you are there with them they will have fun. Author MWC_LifeBeginsAt40
3 nights at a hotel 2 hrs away with a waterpark! (Kids eat free!) Now, should I invite Grandma along or not in case I meet some hot guy by the pool - probably will end up attracting some hairy old fart in a speedo.

moimeme
Don't know how far you are from Edmonton but I took three kids of very different ages to the Science Centre there and they LOVED it. It's all set up to entertain everyone from kid to adult. And of course if you haven't been to the West Edmonton Mall you know it's got the granddaddy of water parks in it, right? bluechocolate
Hey - I grew up in Canada. We had a vacation fund when we were kids - a huge bottle that everyone threw change into throughout the year & then come vacation time it was emptied, counted & rolled. Then a vote was taken as to what we wanted to do. I think it's a great idea that your children are intimately involved in the decision making (you can be clever & get what you wanted & still make them think they were involved). Vacations I will always remember were St. Anne DeBeaupre fort in Quebec, fishing for our supper in the Georgian Islands & camping on Prince Edward Island. Mind you March is rather harsh & sounds like you're in the Prairies. How 'bout something that would seem really extreme but is actually quite safe? Like going way north? Tundra? Eskimos? Stuff like that? From what I've been reading the tundra & the perma frost may not be there at all anymore in our life time so might be good to show them how stuff "used to be". Author MWC_LifeBeginsAt40
I would love to take my kids on a train ride up north to do some whale watching on the Hudson's Bay. They are going to West Ed Mall and the Rockies with their dad this summer. I love the idea of a vacation fund!! Now that I'm separated and things will be tighter financially, that would be alot of fun for them - and they like to save money but we always had a hard time deciding what to save up for! I really want to take them to Disneyworld before they get too old (ha, as if anyone's too old for that). But really, before they are teenagers.
