Does my acne look really bad?

Recommended Posts

I am trying everything to cover it up and fix it but nothing works and its getting worse and I am very depressed. My parents told me that my acne looks really bad and I will never get a boyfriend because my skin is very damaged and no guy will ever want me and ever since they said this to me, I have been very depressed than ever before.

You're only 18, and your hormones are still raging. It's no wonder you have acne, it happens, although not to everyone, granted, but the young are prone to it.

Don't use harsh soaps on your skin, use a clean new flannel every day, and drink as much water every day, as you can (2 litres). Stay off fizzy drinks and junk food, and if you can, eat raw vegetables, and take a zinc supplement.

Don't opt for all these wonderful miracle cures and creams - they will go on their own, and eventually, you will have spent a lot of money trying to do what nature will do for you anyway.

Keep your hair off your face, and use a good moisturiser. if you use make-up, never use so much to cover your spots - you'll clog the skin - and always cleans your face thoroughly before going to bed.

Use a clean pillow case every monday, wednesday and friday, turning the pillow over tuesday, thursday and saturday... Sundays, use a clean towel!

And above all?

DON'T PICK THEM!!

Hello xobeautyxoo,

First, I am sorry you are upset about this and that it is causing you so much pain.

Secondly if this is true

My parents told me that my acne looks really bad and I will never get a boyfriend because my skin is very damaged and no guy will ever want me
then your parents are guilty of verbal child abuse. I can't understand why any parent would want to put their child down like that ?? Have you told your parents how hurt you feel by their comments?

I have worked in healthcare for many years and can tell you that most cases of acne respond very well to a combination of antibiotics/hormonal therapies/photodynamic therapy.

You don't say what treatment regime you are following?

If you are depressed about this then you need to see your GP/Physician and discuss this with them.

In answer to your original question, no, I have seen acne cases a lot worse than yours. However, that doesn't affect your situation and how you deal with it.

Please get some professional advice from you healthcare provider as soon as possible.

Good luck.

It looks like acne, which is a very normal skin problem. It isn't shocking or "bad".

Do what you can to treat your acne, but please remember that you are more than your skin! Hold your head high, smile brightly, and keep your hair off your face (which could in fact aggravate the acne). Self-consciousness about your skin will get in the way of dating more than a few pimples.

Well, see, that is because your parents are **cked in the head. I've seen plenty of women who were beautiful despite their acne. Beyond that, there are plenty of guys out there facing the same issue who won't be quick to judge you.

It's nothing unusual for your age. But if you want to be ready to get rid of the scarring once it slows down, you should take a little part-time job and save your money because dermatologists, using a combination of modern methods, can pretty much erase acne over multiple treatments, but it takes some bucks, so start saving.

That's really stupid and not true. My best friend has been struggling with cystic acne for years. She's done everything she could think of and its still there. She gets really bad breakouts and constantly wears thick layers of makeup to hide her acne.

However, she's a very beautiful girl, she's been hit on, asked out and chased by many, many men. I remember a close friend of ours who had a huge crush on her. It took him 2 years to get over her. Obviously the acne didn't stop anyone from being attracted to her. She has a boyfriend now (she's 22).

Does my skin look extremely bad? Please be honest!

No it doesn't. Its noticeable but its not bad. You're still very young, and many people your age have acne. Many people years later still have acne. I'm in university and I see people with bad acne all the time. It's just a phase. Relax, don't worry. Give it some time, it will go away.

I had bad acne too when I was 18. I used tea tree oil on my face and I found that it eases some of the redness. I also use Benzaclin, but that's prescribed. You can talk to your dermatologist about options. If nothing helps, you may need to use Accutane. Birth control is also an option for acne, I use a brand called Yaz. I also found that being in the sunshine helps too. Not too long because you don't want to damage the skin, but a little bit of sun helps (or a vitamin D lamp).

Absolutely DO NOT pick it, whatever you do. Many people I know who picked their acne ended up with really ugly scars. I didn't pick mine and the spots went away and left clean skin. Nobody knows now that I've ever had acne. Picking it will spread the bacteria around more and damage your pores.

Its just a hormonal thing. Many people have acne. Don't worry it will go away, and don't listen to your parents because what they said was hurtful and untrue.

I agree with Crystal Castles. It's not too bad and i definitely think your parents are being quite harsh. I struggled with acne from around 18 on the sides of my face too, worse at my time of the month.. and am in my 20s now, the only thing that has helped is a prescribed cream called adapalene which is more of a preventive than treatment and it works for me, have you tried anything like that or asked the doctor about medicines etc?

It's not that bad! I had it too when I was 18, now I'm 22 and it's all better with no lasting damage. I get occasional break outs, mostly when I'm PMSing, but for the most part my skin is good now.

Definitely see a dermatologist, but in the meantime if you want to cover it, the only brand of make up I found that didn't make it worse was Neutragena. They have a base/cover up that has salicylic acid in it so it actually helps to treat your acne instead of making it worse. I would definitely recommend using a toner and an oil free moisturizer with it. The doctor might prescribe you one but if not, I like Proactiv. I still use it now!

Oh and by the way, I had boyfriends even when I had acne, so your parents are just being mean!

Folks, since links to personal images are a no-no here, I deleted the external link and you may find responses from the thread starter delayed. As the discussion appears productive, it is retained and the thread remains open to topical comment. Thanks!

My apologies...a PBM so we'll close this up.
