can I get into serious trouble for setting up a fake account on an OLD site?

Yeah, it probably is a waste of time and money, even if done for kicks. I'd have to pay for the month subscription and then there is this whole automatic renewal thing, what if I can't cancel it myself for whatever reason (intentional glitch on the site)... not worth the risk.

That being yourself thing thing is probably the best way to stand out anyway. Thanks for all the replies.

Just set up a fake one on OKC. It's an interesting experiment. Find a random cute girl on facebook and use her photos, then write a short but convincing profile - only takes about 10min.

Watch all the messages pile in - most of them are really earnest and lame and totally humourless so if you ever send a decent message, it'll stand out.

I went on a bit of power trip, even trolled a friend, complimenting his profile and offering to suck him off etc. He laughed when I told him who I was...

OKC, Match, POF do not care, I have done it to check out who's there. I present myself as a non-english speaking immigrant, thus I do not get anyone's hopes up.

Zoosk will go nuts, even block your IP, and seemingly block your access thru cookies. I tried the gamut there.

For photos I carefully pick photos from the third world that would clearly not compromise any human that accesses the internet. Tread lightly with photos.

Either way, I do not encourage playing it as a game, I am fine with (and do) use the immigrant strategy described above.

I remember one time I was messaging a female friend of mine and I started getting messages back like that. How she wanted to suck me off and stuff. And this was a girl I've known for over a decade and she would never be that bold and aggressive so I pretty quickly deduced it was her brother who she lives with. The guy that always runs around in video games playing female characters and stuff.

There seems to be boatloads of guys out there with these tendencies to be sexual with other guys but can't just bring themselves to the point of fully embracing it. For whatever reason.

That seems like a lot of work to go through. I'm assuming you're posting a guys pic or are you doing the female thing too? Why not just post a real picture of yourself to look around? It's a nice ego boost seeing women looking at your profile even when you're not that into finding someone.

I want to open a fake account on an online dating site for the purpose of bettering myself. I want to do a social experiment. I want to pose as an attractive woman so that I could receive lots and lots of e-mails from men to get an idea of the sort of message women get on OLD sites. I want to do this primarily because 1) I want to take elements from the good e-mails and incorporate them into my own e-mails and 2) I want to get an idea of what "bad e-mails" are so that I could avoid making them myself. I also want to get an idea of what percentage of e-mails on OLD sites are 1) creepy and 2) overly weird so that I know exactly what I need to do to be "original" and "interesting".

I found some pictures of an attractive woman from Germany (far away from here) and came up with a convincing life story with lots of exciting details. I'm sure she'd get lots of attention. The only problem is... I know it's against the rules and possibly illegal? But, I'm doing it to better myself, which is for the greater good I think.

What are your thoughts on this?

P.S. I don't plan on replying to many of the e-mails and if I do reply, I will not lead anyone on or be rude, troll, etc...

You got issues dude. Seek professional help.

I really don't see the point. What do you hope to gain by imitating how some other guys message women?

Most of the guys out there, it does not matter how well they compose or what they say in a message. They were never in the running.

Some of the guys out there, it will matter, but more along the lines of not saying the wrong things.

Also, how does you seeing their message show what a girl would think and how a girl would respond?

That's what I thought too - epic flaw right there!

Something the OP might think is fine a woman may dislike or vice versa.

dude just ask women here what opening messages they get. I'm sure some will c/p a bunch for you if you're nice about it.

anyway end of the day, you need good photos and your message can be "just okay" and you'll be fine. so maybe worry more about photos if yours need improving.

Ehh... been there, done it.

A couple of years ago, I put a couple of fake female profiles on OLD, they got bombarded with dozens of messages a day from guys, 99% of them the "me stupid! Me horny! Me-you, make cave-babies! *grunt grunt*" variety.

Yeah, it's a crappy thing to do... but most of those guys who hit on "her" were just neanderthals looking to get a quick sex fix.

The idea of a fake profile isn't illegal. It could get you kicked off the site, but that's about it.

In one of her dating exercises, relationship guru Marni Kinrys specifically tells me to do this, to create a fake profile to see what it's like to be a woman.

Your only problem is the portion I quoted above. You can't use someone else's image without permission. Legal issues aside, what if someone sees the profile, and tells her husband or boyfriend? You might break up a marriage or a relationship, or even get someone killed... far-fetched, but is it worth the risk?

Instead, seek out a female friend or relative, someone attractive and the right age group. Get her permission first. This is what I did when creating a fake profile to test some theories. My friend thought it was hilarious.

I didn't know that. The experiment I did was on OKC, and I was pretty careful; I used a proxy server and a VPN account, and made sure I was using a clean browser. I even used a plug in for Google Chrome that tells web servers that I'm using a different OS (I think I picked Windows XP even though I was on Mac Mavericks). Guess that was overkill :)

I have a couple of fake profiles up. I use a male model's picture and have random women meet me at random places. If the women are nearby, I will have them meet me at a place near my actual residence, then watch them squirm when they realize they've been stood up.

It's fun!

I made one once... a ER doc, nice looking but not model material, big house, lots of hair, flies his own private plane, into fine dining and wine collecting, enjoys the occasional chic flick, owns a house at the beach, loves the south of France, looking for marriage. In the income field I selected the max... $250k+ or something like that. This guy was too good to be true... literally.

I just wanted to see which of the local women would forget their dignity over a profile like that. This guy had women from all over the country throwing themselves at him. Apparently, there are a good many looking for a lifestyle upgrade who do most of their searching on the income field. It was really kind of sickening, but an eye-opener too.

I think "lose their dignity" is a bit of a stretch. Success and ambition are attractive. While the dollar amount might be nice, it's indicative of other things and not necessarily the only variable in play when people see the profile. Did you give the guy a nice personality or was he a douche?

I'll admit, when I list my income, I do get a lot of attention from girls all over the world (mostly Asia). When I don't have my income listed, I still get foreign attention but just not as much. Despite the income I live a relatively modest life for NYC and my profile doesn't imply otherwise. I don't know how much "dignity" is being sacrificed by these people -- maybe they have a curiosity? I'm not sure.

@OP....you are either pulling our legs, or you are dead serious about this. I mean why in the world would you want to go down this rabbit hole, and what is the intent?
