Two short questions

I am not a computer whiz and this is why I would love to find out from any of you having more experience in this field, how can I check the remote host or the remote address on different sites. It seems not working the same way it does on loveshack. In addition, how can I find out the time in which a message was created or posted without making some necesarry conversions to time zones.

I will appreciate any input.

Catari.

don't quote me on this, because i'm sure there are others out there who know more than i do, but sometimes you may not be able to find the remote address from a discussion forum or a website, because of firewalls.

a firewall is a computer or other piece of programmable hardware that serves as a protective barrier between the local network and the world. among other functions, a fire wall masks ip addresses of the individual computers in the LAN.

sometimes, people who have their own local area networks (LANs) want to provide internet access to each person on their LAN, but do not want to give people on the internet access to their LAN. this is a security precaution. so, as a result, many LANs are behind a firewall.

a lot of the time you will not get the actual ip address regardless because many isps, business, and universities mask their internal ip address through a firewall or internet router.

i have no idea about finding out the time a message was posted without making necessary conversions, but i think in cases like this site, which is american and obviously uses an american time zone, you will have to somehow convert (but i'm not aware of how many time zones are in the us, or where you're from).

if anyone can advise, i'd like to know too.

Thanks a lot for clarifying whatever you could. I am in the U.S. and I do the conversions all the time. My message probably will show the time in which the web site functions, not the time which is actually in the state where I live. I wondered if it is possible to find out when ( what hour of my time)I posted this message.

Thanks again.
