Lately, I am curious about trying facial. I have never done this before and don't have deeper understanding of this subject. According to the net, Regenerating facials is the best one. Do facials have side effects? I read it depends upon the facials treatment and skin type. Also, is it necessary in the first place to do facial?

Did any men here tried this before? How was your experience and how often do you get it? Please share your experience and knowledge.

Thanks in advance. Cheers...

What is your goal?

Facials () serve different purposes.

Some are meant to be taken in a series, others are simply afternoon treats amounting to little more than a facial massage.

The men I know who received them were hoping to calm mild acne during a single visit.

It didn't work.

I love facials.

Love them.

My skin is important to me so I get hydrating and collagen-based ones.

I get one every month.

The only side effect is irritation from extractions.

Those can be painful depending on the skill of your aesthetician.

I would be wary of having peels on the same day you have plans.

Some can be very irritating.

A few of my male friends do go for facials. AFAIK it's unisex, you get the same treatment as the woman does.

That being said, as a woman, I'm not fond of them myself. They tend to be expensive and there's nothing in them that I can't get from careful selection of facial products. You have to do your research and be careful about potential skin allergies and hoaxes - they are greatly abundant in the kingdom of skin products. ;) Some dermatologists have given their opinions on facials - interesting reading material if you google them.

My husband has come with me for facials and has a had a nice relaxing experience. Skin care isn't just for women.

Many dermatologists with cosmetic practices have aestheticians who give facials. You'll be able to get better creams than the useless rubbish sold in department stores or drugstores.

Gerard Butler said he goes for facials and I am willing to bet Keanu Reeves does, too, since he has beautiful skin. I'm sure they get botox as well. Actors are vain!

Thank you for all your replies. My goal is improve my facial skin. I am almost constantly exposed to dust and sun rays since I moved back to my home country. I feel like my facial skin is getting a bit dull and is not glowing like before. Hence, the idea of facial. Yea, I am a bit afraid of side effects at this point because instead of helping it may cause problems.

To be honest, I am not fond of them myself. But since I have no clue about the facial products and which will suit me personally, I am thinking to take professional help.

Hi again,

Thanks for answering my question about your goal.

There's a few things I would recommend.

1) Services and quality vary wildly because of lack of standardization. So, be picky before going somewhere.

Don't throw your money away--which is easy to do--so

ask friends for recommendations or do research /read reviews on providers.

Don't just walk into any day spa advertising facials. Some use crap products. And it will be no better than having done something at home yourself.

2) Look for hydrating facials. Tell the aesthetician what you want and s/he should customize it for your skin type. Hydradating oily skin versus dry requires a different approach.

3) Get the best results by continuing care at home. A single facial can be beneficial but you need daily maintenance.

You'll see the biggest improvement then.

These places will try to sell you their products at the conclusion of the facial.

I don't recommend buying them.

The markup in price is unreal.

Better to keep moisturizing and cleaning at home with some higher end products you buy yourself.

And drink lots of water!

4) I hear your concern about side effects. Unless you're allergic to an ingrediant, or opt for peels, you should be ok. But as I mentioned, don't make plans the same night.

Just in case.

Still think it's a good idea to treat yourself to one.

Hope you enjoy it!

The skin is an organ, therefore, it stands to reason to tend to it proper.

Whether its the soles of the feet or the face, it needs attended to.

Water is key. Sun exposure is actually safe...It promotes Vitamin D...Just keep out the over exposure to sunlight. environment smog and dust and bites can impede its good health.

Refrain from chemical sabotage. Some folks unfortunately are caught up in the " Skin Lines" that are filled with chemicals that break down the skin. Best weapon to deter that...don't buy into it!. water, coco butter, and exfoliating are good tools.

Place skin under a microscope and let me know if you can 100% tell if its male or female.Skin is gender neutral just like the liver and other organs...

Sorry, I am unable to understand this part. I know men and women skin have structural differences. What do you mean one can tell whether a skin is male/female?
