My Older sister is a 30 yr old mom of a 1 yr old who hasn't worked in about 7 or 8 years. She's incredibly incapable of most things. She's also a super difficult person who has a horrible temper. She married a creep who hacked my fiance, my little sister, me via phones and Facebook and has done many inappropriate things to myself and my younger sister over the years. We never said anything until it came to a head recently and as such she (older sis) is not talking to me or my younger sister. The difficulty other than the obvious is my family who have chosen to pretend nothing happened. They regularly see my sister and her disgusting husbabd. My father is in full on denial and believes my little sister and I are lying. My mother is ignoring it so she doesn't lose seeing her granddaugter. My extended family has chosen to pretend it's not true or assume me and my younger sister are somehow acting out of resentment. So my wedding is next week and I am overjoyed to be joining a new family but of course I did invite my own. I am so angry I can't sleep often. Like right now. This is mostly venting. A huge part of me wants to disengage entirely from my family after the wedding except for my younger sister. On the other hand I feel they are hoping we will so they don't have to face reality. I can't believe this is my life sometimes...
d0nnivain Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Focus on the joys of your own wedding. Smile & fake it with your family when you have to but otherwise ignore them. Go to a website called TheKnot . . .all about weddings. One of the sections on their message boards is called Wedding Nightmares, I think. Read some of those posts & you may feel better about your own situation. Congrats on the upcoming happy event. Don't let them ruin it for you.

Anyway, focus on the positives of your wedding. You have a great younger sister whom you get along with and shares the same outlook on the rest of the family. When your wedding is over, you can then decide if you want to cut your older sis out of your life completely.
