ControlledConception

I started taking birth control pills two days ago - Cyclessa is the name.

I am 31 years old and have never taken them before. Does anyone know of what side-effects

i should expect to experience? I do not smoke and am not overweight if that makes a difference.

Thank you.

I can't thank you enough for providing that weblink to the drug. I read just about the whole site to get all the FYI on it...one of the last things I read was that if you take herbal supplements such as St. John's Wort, in addition to causing increased breakthrough bleeding, it makes the pill less effective and that you may want to take a backup contraceptive.

I take several pills of St. John's Wort because it helps with depression. My doctor had not mentioned this as I was too embarassed to list it on my medical history paperwork, and it is thanks to you that I found this out. Thank you thank you thank you Pocky...

This will be day 5 of taking the pill. It makes me go a little koo-koo. Strange how our brain's chemistry effects us differently all the time.

It's affecting you mentally? I've never had a pill affect me that way. Everything has been a physical complication. What's it doing?

I had crazy mood swings on ortho-tri-cyclen. Now that I am on Yasmin I have a lot less mood swings. It's like PMS to the extreme.

Pocky, it is odd that my mood and mental health is being affected by the pill. I feel the effects mostly in the immediate 2 to 3 hour period after I take it. I just feel kind of crazy and not myself and it even makes me send not so nice emails venting at loved ones then I have a hard time sleeping and dealing witht he consequences so I am putting those emails in draft instead of clicking on the send button. At work I'll go through periods of just not wanting to work. I feel like my brain chemistry is changing.

That's a good analogy Blind_Otter - it is like PMS but it just feels in a different way. I get so sensitive about everythng and it ends up causing a lot of frustration.

Another side effect I have noticed is that my sense of smell is extremely sensitive and I pick up on every sent in a powerful way. It has also made my breasts tender.

On a positive note, the few pimples I get on my face is starting to clear up and is much smoother than it has ever been.

I am taking note of all the changes I am experiencing because over time it will become a part of me that I won't be able to tell apart and so especially with the mental issues which change who <<I>> am I am paying extra attention to that.

Well, everybody's different, but the first pill I tried (Mircette) wiped out my libido completely (!)...and then the next one I tried (Alesse) made me very moody and emotional for a couple of weeks and made me retain water, but then those effects went away after the first month...now I'm pretty happy with it.

I have gained almost 10 pounds in the short period I have started taking the pill. It makes me feel hungry all the time and I eat and eat. Five minutes ago I threw the pills in the trash and am going to bit*h at my doctor for not warning me of this not so minor side effect. Women can be evil and maybe she wanted me to gain weight. As if it wasn't enough that she made me wait naked with a think paper covering in the freezing cold examination room for nearly an hour before she finally examined me and gave this BS perscription. I hate her.

Yes, I'm sure your doctor secretly hates you, wants to make you get fat, and really wants you to suffer.

There are so many scripts for hormonal birth control. It takes time to find the one that works best for you. Just be patient, and inform your doc. They aren't psychics.
