Building Muscle on Top of Fat?? Is this possible?

Recommended Posts

i saw a post earlier and it said that,

if youre trying to trim down the waistline

or buns or arms or whatever, that you shouldn't

just start with weights, because you'd end up

building muscle on top of FAT, is his true?

It doesn't sound right, how can you build muscle, over fat.

Fat usually forms on TOP of muscle.

am I just out of it?

You don't build muscle on top of fat. Fat generally forms over muscle, but even that's not entirely true as you can have fat within the muscle.

You also can't lose fat from only one place on your body. You lose fat or you gain fat, but your body decides where it will be removed/distributed.

Cardio is best for losing fat but weights will work as well since--all other things being equal--the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn.

That'd be weird seeing a 300 pound guy with a six-pack belly. I'm going to say it's not possible.

It is ok to start with weights. It will burn your fat as the muscle mass increases. Even at rest muscle burns fat so as the more muscle you build, the more fat you will be burning away at the same time.

That's not true. The type of exercise you do has an influence on where you lose the fat the most. You have control over that. If I want leaner arms or calves, I'll do weights that will make them leaner in those areas. Some weight and cardio exercises will burn the fat in the boob area so there is a lot of picking and choosing to do - I guess that's at a level of sculpting though.

For the average overweight person, do your weights and pref. cardio too and you'll start shedding fat all over, while replacing it with muscle mass.
