Needle went in bottom of foot, now my ankle is extremely sore...why????

Okay so please don't laugh....I'm being serious here and wonder if anyone knows what this could be....?!?!

 

About two days ago while walking bare footed through my home, I had a sewing needle go almost all the way into the bottom of my foot like slide in NOT straight up and down but long ways in (if you get what I'm saying)..?

 

I didn't think much of it except (oh sh*t that hurt)....well yesterday the back of my ankle started hurting, today it is worse...almost like gout has set in where my ankle/foot meet in the back. I know it can't be gout because I don't have that but could it be related to the needle going in my foot?!?!

 

Any insight you may have is and will be greatly appreciated! (Just for the record...if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days I will call/see my doctor but I wanted to ask around first about what it could be).

I could be totally wrong here so keep that in mind, but did you check to see if the needle was rusty at all. If so, it could be tetnis. Or maybe there was something on the needle and you have an infection. Does the bottom of your foot look weird at all?

The needle wasn't rusty but I dunno if it could have had something on it that caused an infection....as far as my foot looking odd...nope there is a small purple (tiny) spot with a tiny bump on it where the needle in but it isn't pussy or discolored (other than reddish purple). Could it still be tetnis or something

No idea. If it gets worse in the next day or two then definitely see a doctor. Sorry, can't be much more help than that.

No problem what-so-ever...I was just curious if anyone had any ideas...I will probably call my doc tomorrow morning to get in to see him...cuz now I'm worried... It's probably nothing but better to be safe than sorry and thanks for the response!

 

 

~Naive~ No worries...I'll see my doc as soon as he can fit me in...I'm more trying to put my worries to rest or confirm them hahaha!

You should for sure see your doc. I once worked with a gal who ended up in hospital with tetanus - because she stepped on a belt buckle when she got out of a shower!!!

Your usually fine from Tetanus *if* you've had your tetanus shot within the past 10 years (for adults). But the sad thing is, people rarely get the imuunizations when they get older. Yeah, go see a doc.

 

Could be cellulitis, anything. Keep an eye on your temperature and the redness to the area.

Okay so I just got back from seeing my doctor...I'm fine, nothing to worry about!! I was sooooooooooooooooooooo scared but he (the doc) said....that the needle "where it went in" hit a nerve that triggered pain in the area in which I was feeling it. He gave me a small shot (i have no idea what it was...a "just in case" shot)...and now the pain is gone and I feel much better.

...probably antibiotics mixed with a little pain med - very scary - I'm glad you went to the Doctor.

Yes I think it was some anti-biotics or something like that. I'm so glad it was nothing!

0 Yeah no kidding girl, after reading Tanbark's response I was like "ought oh" I got more worried but now I know it's all okay! I just gotta be more careful next time...I never have needles on the floor, I vaccum once in the morning and once in the evening so i have no clue how that durn thing got there!

Yes mam I sure do. I run "errands" for a friend. I work odd hours (I'm on call from 11am-11pm) but usually work about 4-6 hours per evening. I make time before and afterwards to get to the housework.
