monkey00
Im not sure if this is the right place to post this...but.. this is the story - Supposedly i fininished my A.A.S. last semester (associates) and this semester im in the process of doing my application to transfer to another College to complete my Bachelors for next semester. I sent in all the material that was needed. so now i find out i may not have completed my Associates and may have to waste another semester (which from now until then would be 1 whole year!) working again or not transfer at all. The stupid advisor i spoke to said i had completed all my required courses for my associates....Now im totally screwed cause i listend to her. I'm going to the College tomorrow to see why i dont have my associates and try to settle it....Either i - a) ask them to let me slide that 1 class i didnt take and give me my associates b) Somehow hope to get lucky and have them throw me into my required class during the middle of this semester. c) take the required class in my old college during the summer and go to the admissions office in the college im transfering to and ask them to admit me and allow me to register for fall 05 courses. d)take the required class in my old college during fall 05 and go to the admissions office in the college im transfering to and ask them to let admit me and allow me to register for fall 05 courses. If the above doesnt work, im totally ****ed, PLEASE help!! especially those who have been in my situation! what do i do!!??
HotCaliGirl
If I am not mistaken, you have until the semester starts at the college you are transferring to next semester, to complete the required courses/get your AA... I would 1) First check to see if you could get into the class you need at this point in the semester. Get a late add-on slip, explain your situation to the professor and have him sign off on it to add you. I am 90% sure that he will. 2) Inform the college you are going to of your situation so that they can update the application you submitted to reflect the class you are to take either this semester or over the summer. 3) Talk to a council or the dean at the college you are transferring to for their professional guideance. Don't stress out over it. I have a feeling that things will get sorted out. When I went to UCLA they bent over backwards to accommodate to my needs and made things smooth. But I know, I used to get so stressed too. Also, I don't think you necessarily need an AA to transfer - just a list of required courses, which turns out to in most cases also complete the required courses required for an AA degree. Although you have found out that there has turned out to be a class that you have not completed which is required for the AA, there may be another class that is not required for the AA that you have taken that you can petition to the transferring college to accept as qualifying in place of the class you are short of for THEIR requirements... I don't THINK they require an AA, but instead a list of classes. You can always go back to take the class for the AA, even over the summer. Just some thoughts... there are a lot of different options, but you'll have one figured out. Don't lose sleep over it, it sounds like you are just about there. Good job. pseud
First of all, stop blaming the college and blaming the academic advisor. If anyone is at fault here, there is a very large chance that you are to blame, because you simply did not know. I see this happen so frequently at my college, that I bet this is what happened to you: You most likely completed the academic course requirements to earn your Associates at your two-year university. However, the requirements to earn your AAS at the two-year university are, most likely, different from the requirements for acceptance into the four-year univeristy you want to go to in order to get your BA. In other words, you should have been responsible enough to find out, on your own, which credits and which courses would and would not transfer into the four-year university. You have no choice but to do better research this time around, and to take the courses you need to get into the university of your choice. Go to the department head of whatever you are majoring in, and find out if you definitely did qualify for your Associates degree. Do not stop there, either. Talk to a few people to find out for certain whether or not you met the graduation requirements for your Associates AND eligibility to transfer into the four-year school you want to get into. I know that a lot of two-year universities do not spell this sort of thing out, but what you need to get your Associates degree in one place, is not always accepted, and does not always transfer into a four-year university. And really, what is one more year? Maybe you can test out of a few courses, or attend condensed summer and winter sessions. Sure, you may be in class five hours a day, five days a week, but you'll fix things. I wouldn't expect your two-year college to let you "slide" on anything. Ultimately, the decision for your acceptance is up to the four-year school you want to get into. You must complete their course requirements to become eligible for transfer, or find another school that you do qualify for.
Author monkey00
Thanks for the much needed advice guys. I visited the school a couple days ago and spoke to the head of the department of my major. The answer he gave me was both satisfying and ironic in a sense. What he had told me was that in order for my Associates degree to be offical and be stated on my Transcript, was that i needed to go to registrar and declare it. Only after they go checkmark all the classes i took that were required for the degree, will they make it official on my transcript. I will be going on monday to get this settled....and hopefully i wont run into any problems.
