rov
Hi, I met an awesome girl yesterday, she seems interested in me and even suggested activities for both of us. I told her that we could go to the movies on the weekend and she said that it would be a good idea. So tomorrow I want to ask her out. For a second date do you recommend texting or calling? mammasita
You're gonna get mixed answers here. Depends on your preferred form of comms and what works for the people involved. I'm a texter and prefer that. If she hasn't stated that she prefers speaking on the phone then go ahead and text. .....but a movie for a first date? Ugh, rethink that one my friend..... bathtub-row
Do not EVER text a girl to ask her out! Texts are for casual conversation. Texting to ask a girl out is in very poor taste.

mammasita
Do not EVER text a girl to ask her out! Texts are for casual conversation. Texting to ask a girl out is in very poor taste. Disagree. I hate taking on the phone. Text me to ask me out.
El Oh El
Disagree. I hate taking on the phone. Text me to ask me out. This is why the internet is Hell for dating advice. You got one dude saying DON'T EVER and you got mammasita saying Text me to ask me out. LOL Why not just answer the question: Pros and cons of txting vs calling 4 a 2nd D. Pros: txting, she might be like mammasita. Cons: maybe mammsita is craaaazy and will burn your heart to the ground causing your life to never be the same. Pros: calling, it can be a bit more 'guaranteed' Cons: Not if you suck.
mammasita
That's why I said OP would get mixed answers. Pros and cons depend on the people involved. If the girl hasn't specifically said "I hate texting" or "I prefer talking on the phone"....then go for a text. Pro: a text is easy con: you can misinterpret emotions OP, this is why a movie is a bad idea BTW.....how on earth are you supposed to get to know if she's ok with texting or not if your sitting in a dark theater, staring at a screen, NOT TALKING TO EACHOTHER for two hours
rester
I'm in the phone call camp. I hate texting and refuse to use it to communicate with new people. It's far too impersonal for me. I've also dealt with too many insecure coworkers and employees who refuse to pick up the phone because of "phone shyness", and for that reason I judge people harshly for only wanting to text. I've found that people without phone skills are often lacking in other communication skills. Probably not fair of me, but it's based on a lot of experience.
todreaminblue
calling.....keep texts to a minimum once dating..confirmation of dates and hey can i call you sort of thing........they are impersonal ..call instead.........deb
doeblin
From what I've gathered, ladies under 25 prefer texting... if it's someone older, you should call. But feel free to refute me, ladies! (Cinema is a bad idea for the first few dates. Simple coffee, a walk in the park, aquarium or bowling are better choices.)
writergal
doeblin's got it right. The Millennials (under 25s) eat, breathe, and live via text messages. If you call them, you get a text response back instead of a phone call. As a Gen X'er myself, I prefer the phone to text messaging. I hate text messaging for communication in general, even moreso where dating is concerned. I just feel like cellphone technology has destroyed dating manners and made people much more disconnected and lazy where dating someone is concerned.

writergal
Even my "millennial" son thinks it's lame to text a girl to ask her out. You raised him right then bathtub-row! I was just referring to my cousins' kids who are all under 25. You can't pry their fingers from their phones, because they're always texting. It's unbelievable.
