CurvyGurl
Whether I would date someone is purely dependent upon his personality. I have met some very good looking stupid jerks and some overweight and balding wonderful men. As far as your pics, you look very average, with or without your glasses. Not unattractive, but not 'blow me away' good looking either. One thing I look for is individuality. I can't see your hair, but what do you do with it? Does it just sit there or do you comb it into a style? The only thing I would do is perfect a closed mouth slight smile (you have great lips by the way but your teeth are large and make you look rabbit-ish), find a funky frame style for your glasses-- the round does not benefit your face shape at all-- maybe some squarish ones with black rims, or rimless??? Dunno. Experiment. Glasses are pretty cheap, and I think you look better with them than without. Lastly, whatever you're doing with your hair, make sure it's been crafted by a salon and you can keep it up at home. I don't require men to look like Greek Gods, because I could look better myself. I just ask that they take care in their appearance. Clean, ironed, coordinated clothing when appropriate. Fresh breath. Bathed and BO free.
brashgal
You look best smiling - confidence and happiness are attractive...
Nomad
Hi Joel, Use Accutane for acne. Nothing else works, believe me. I've tried Rx stuff, over the counter stuff, & nothing worked like Accutane. It's a very powerful acne drug that actually WORKS. Forget Clearisil & that crap. It's worthless. And I agree w/ Curvy gurl that the teeth could use some work. They're not terrible by any stretch, you just need to solve the (slightly) buck-toothed look you've got going. Some tanning probably couldn't hurt either. Good luck w/ everything!
CurvyGurl
I really think you could pull off a mysterious stranger look with ease.
HotCaliGirl
I think you look great! Nice to see what you look like. Like CurvyGirl said, it's the inside that counts. You look ok with or without glasses and with or without a smile. In person, it is appropriate to smile or not smile depending on the situation. If you see better with glasses, don't get all self-conscious and not wear them. Be confident regardless of how you look and what you are wearing or how your hair looks. Also - your teeth are just fine. They are proportionate to the rest of your appearance and blend in well. By the way, I would NOT recommend Accutane. I took it as a teenager for some mild acne - and the side effects are not worth the trouble of taking such a strong medication which I regret taking, especially since your acne is not severe (you might be able to look up the side-effects somewhere online, but from what I remember, it can effect your mood, ruin your cuticles and a number of other things. I had to see my doctor every two weeks and sign an extensive contract before and after the procedure and it really didn't make a difference but I know everyone is different). Stick to the Clearasil you are using and you should be fine...
Nostalgic
I commend you for being so brave Joel. The last pic is where you shine--w/o the glasses and Smiling. Keep that up.

pizzanova
clear up your acne, get a tan, wear a hat (to cover that god-awful hairstyle) and perhaps lose a bit of weight (your face looks chubby).
XNemesisX
well I am very open about telling people how they could look better. (I know I want people to be honest with me in this department) so here goes!! First off...you need a tan as others have said. A tan can make a big difference in your appearance. I am naturally very light complected and I hate how people tell me to just love my skin as it is, blah blah. I definitely over cooked myself in tanning beds during high school and beginning of college to the point that I had to have a spot removed on my chest. So, now I do the airbrush tanning and it even looks better than a real tan! I still do real tanning in the summer, even though I know I shouldn't but I can't help it! As for the other months, it is airbrush all the way. SO, if you are concerned about cancer risks of tanning try the airbrush tanning..it really looks great and natural. The glasses...need to go. If you want to go for a smart/geeky look then keep them but I think 9 out of 10 people look better with OUT glasses. I have bad eyesight too and I will wear my glasses occasionally but most of the time I do contacts. Glasses hurt most people in the looks department. Wear them only when you have to or at night while you are at home. The acne is not that bad. But I think accutane is good for some people. I took it in high school even though I didn't have a terrible case of acne - the pimples bothered me immensely. It worked like a charm and I hardly EVER get a zit even to this day now. The only side effects I got was dry skin. Give it a try if the acne bothers you and if you get side effects, stop taking it ASAP. Also, clearasil never worked for me. Actually, as weird as this sounds TOOTHPASTE tends to work WAY better than clearasil or anything else for the occasional zit. Try putting some toothpaste on them before bed. Your teeth are fine, there is not much you can do to change the size of your teeth. Try changing your hair style. Put some funky caramel colored highlights in it and try using gel. Don't cut your hair too short. Also, what size are you? Any full length pics? The body is just as important as the face. Don't let it go. Hope this helped!
Ms_Sweetness
The pic of you without glasses and smiling is the one I prefer.
OCGirl
Here's my two cent rant about..Why is the world so stuck on looks? (sigh) Yeah, um, I speak from experience, been through the whole "improve on myself" thingy. Did the female anorexia 80 pound dying looking girl thingy to almost running out for boobs. Why? Because the modeling industry told me I was fat and needed boobs. Ummm improve on your inside. That's where it is. You look great to me!! If some breakouts bother you, that ProActive stuff is really reasonable and works great. Drink lots of water.. look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you like yourself. runner
i agree with OCGirl...the world is too damn hung over with looks, its disgusting. all these make over shows just want to make me hurl. anyways, sorry for the rant, back on topic... dude, you look fine. you're best bet is to be yourself and perhaps accentuate your own unique postive qualities. for the most part, its gonna be your attitude, confidence, and how you hold yourself that ultimately makes you attractive to women. perhaps you should take on some sort of physical hobby (ie. sports, surfing, weight training, etc) that could help boost your morale and self confidence, and maybe even give you some curves in the right places [NOTE: never met a girl who didn't like a guy with a nice ass]. lastly, do what makes you happy (without women) and stay positive. i only bring up women cos i'm assuming you're just trying to be more attractive. unless of course your doing this to try and get on 'american idol' or one of those TV shows...hehe. oh and getting regular excercise does help reduce acne; you're more inclined to eating healthier foods when you do. add to that, keeping your face clean (ie. keep your hands off your face), drink lots of water, and get lots of sleep. caramelbrownchick
i took accutane too you do need a perscription and it costs alot, you also have to pay to get monthly blood work done, they are now saying it causes depression, and lupus the list goes on and on I would reasearch it before you take it, it made me extreamly tired and after a year my acne came back, i would do a search for accutane read a few journals read up on the side effects before you take it. OCGirl
*snicker* Oh yeah.. tans solve everything! NOT! Umm not everyone in world looks good with or is meant for a tan. See..we were all made crayons...different colors..different sizes..some bold...some bright...some dull...etc etc.. Can't anyone just be happy with themselves? I don't have any problem with improving on little things that aren't going over the edge like, okay you might not like your glasses. Fine, contacts are cool. Or, maybe you devolped a few acne scars and they bother you keyword YOU. Microderm is cheap and helps. My point over and over is... don't try to impress people or make yourself someone to please them. Make yourself happy with you because you are the only one who can truly make yourself happy. I can't tell you how many people I have met changed themselves only to still see the same person in the mirror in the end. Beauty fades and it's just a wrapping. What stays forever is the gift.. your inside.
XNemesisX
Beauty fades and it's just a wrapping. What stays forever is the gift.. your inside I don't think this is really what he is wanting to hear right now. We have all heard these cliche lines about "real beauty is on the inside" yada yada. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to change or improve your appearance. Let's not go overboard with the cheesy "inside is what counts" stuff that we have all heard. Improving one's appearance can be a great way to feel better about one's self. Be it wrong or right, that is how it is. Looks DO count. I think it matters to everyone..it's not everything but it is still important and if someone wants to improve it - more power to them!
OCGirl
Well maybe it's my experience from getting tired of being valued by my looks and treated like a trophey girl. It's no fun either way. I don't see what I said as a cliche being as I date "A cliche" and I totally love him because he sees my inside and thats all I am blinded by his. I rather be with someone who when I know we are 80 and wrinkled, can still have my heart and mind.

I think it's ok to try to improve one's look as much as possible, that's absolutely legitime, but it's also true that it's not always about looks, at least not for some people. As long as you are not drop-dead ugly you will not have that much problems to find someone and you can still make up a lot with inner values like intelligence, kindness, honesty, gentleness, confidence, etc. If you were a 10 you would have it easier to attract another 10, but if you are only an average five you might still get a 10 if you can make up your lack of above-average good-looks with having a great personality. You will not be able to convince all the 10s to fall for you, some people just place looks on a higher rank in their priority list and go for an equal look-wise, but some might value looks less and go for a five if he's really great. That's a bit off-topic what I have to say, but I guess, you are not only interested in improving your looks, so I will include it here. I've read some of your posts and what strikes *me* as worthy for improvement is your writing. Admitted, it's in general one of my pet peeves, nevertheless your grammar and your spelling suck big time. If you were the kind of person who intentionally chose an alternative writing style I might not say anything, but I think it's some kind mental sloppiness and that's not really attractive. None of my posts are masterworks of literature and if I don't re-read and edit them they are usually a mess, but I usually try to stick to the conventional rules of grammar and spelling and so should you. Get it right, you are not going to impress any girl with a love letter or a pick-up line that is full with grammar and spelling mistakes. If you only want to date a Chinese girl it's not a problem if your English has flaws, if you want to date outside your own race you should prepare better, language is important when you want to communicate with someone and it can be a powerful tool to seduce and attract. You do not have to be a second Shakespeare to find a girlfriend, but I think you should at least be able to manage the basics of grammar and spelling. Unless you are dyslexic (I kind of doubt that) there's no excuse for this writing style.
