A guys occupation is irrelevant to me as you can't rely on a mans wages in any way,he can lose interest in you easily and then what, those moneybags are gone.

I use to be preoccupied with bloodlines more than occupations when I was younger, not the American sort of false upper classes but the really old ones, that was because I'm religious about genetics, but now I don't plan to have children I can return to being a Romanticist and like whoever I like.

 at talking about dating blue collar workers as 'setting standards too low'

Says a lot about the elitism of the cushy people on here.

Blue-Collar Groupie

Am I setting my standards too low?

You know your standards better than anyone.

Can't say I've ever had any collar groupies, though there have been some relevant to the product of that work. Interesting how they disappear during tough times. That's how it goes I guess.

Life is pretty good when there's always something to do. Good luck in your pursuits!

So there's this running joke in my family and amongst friends that I have a soft spot for decidedly "average" and/or blue collar guys. My mom actually calls me a "blue collar groupie" quite frequently.

I've briefly dated or been purused by all kinds, from laborers to professionals to trust fund babies but the guys I've always been the absolute craziest about have been the "Average Joe" types. Plumbers, electricians, cops, etc.

These guys most likely have "alpha" qualities that you respond to -- they won't be "nice guys", they won't be overly analytical, they will be direct. I've always thought my level of education hurt me in the dating world far more than it helped me. In my part of the country -- rural region, small cities -- the vast majority of women with post-graduate degrees are with men who are contractors, tradesmen, and entrepreneurial types. With women increasingly outnumbering men in college, this trend will only get more pronounced.
