elaine567
I haven't done any research on this to confirm, but my experience backs this up. Within my circle of friends and family, the women generally have more stringent physical standards than men. Yes, the women are more accepting of body shapes, but they are less willing to compromise on height and race. This is just a small sample size, so it's not enough to draw a real conclusion. I would be interested on seeing some actual statistics on this. I believe women are programmed to look for suitable fathers for their children, so it doesn't really matter if the guy is fat or skinny, toned or slobby, his genetics for height are more important. Height tends to equate to health, strength and power. People tend to look for people who are similar to themselves and that includes facial features and skin colour, race thus plays a part here. Being an outsider or of lower status equates with being less powerful, less socially acceptable and that can affect health too, so better to choose within one's own race or to choose within what is deemed the superior race. The result of this programming means the kids will be racially "correct" and of a decent height and thus have more chance of being powerful, strong and healthy.
Radu
O.L.D. profiles ask you to fill in your salary, and you can search with that criteria selected (usually). And recently I had the pleasure of doubling my income statement on my O.L.D. proflies. Did nothing to increase or decrease my visitors. Depends what is doubled.
NJ123
No. We live in a world full of people that eat too much food and are too sedentary and then expect people of the opposite sex that actually take the time to workout and eat only enough to satisfy hunger and not gourge themselves to be attracted to the end result of fat peoples life style. Watch that Megan Trainor video "All about the bass". It's supposedly about inner beauty and being big is good, but her love interest in that vid is a skinny/in-shape guy. Why didn't she find that fat guy dancing attractive enough to fill that roll instead? So what I get from that is even fat people are not attracted to fat people. Well, but that still proves my point that we live in a shallow world. If even fat people don't want to be with other fat people. They'll still rather be with the good looking fit man/woman than another out of shape partner.
Thegreatestthing
I always use to think that then I saw polish boys naked they are just beautiful, the epitome of masculinity. I see so much male beauty it's really something,I think if it were true that women are not concerned with male beauty that one direction et al would not make any money. I know as a teenage girl and most other teenage girls I knew we were obsessed with male beauty.thinking back to teen years all the girls had Leonardo dicaprio etc etc on their walls, the boys had nothing. Women just stop caring about in their later years, because they are more apt to value other things like moneybags. I am artist so I really value asethetics, but I like the guy to look Unsusual,my bf he's attractive but to me it's a bit boring you want something unsual to make you look a bit longer. My ex was very good looking but he also looked unsual so I wanted to paint him all the time. I just think women are less picky about a guy's looks - especially if he lets himself go after they start a RL. On Seinfeld, one time Elaine said that men's bodies are more "utilitarian" and not as sexy/beautiful as women's bodies. And yea, men are more visual creatures than we women are. mario_C
Depends what is doubled.OK, the actual numbers went from under $25k to over $70k. I started work as a developer a couple months ago, while still driving Ub3r on the weekends. So hell, more like tripled.
Danda
I also think the whole alleged premise and an actual experiment are flawed together. Are men or women more superficial? Can debate that until the end of time, but the experiment doesn't actually reveal anything on the topic. What the experiment is actually showing a glimpse of, is whether men or women are more or less polite. Like I already mentioned, I think it's clear that all of the men and all of the women were a bit startled and upset (in some way or another) that they had been deliberately deceived. What the camera is capturing is how they reacted. And the results in that regard are not at all surprising. Society in general definitely teaches women in a wide variety of ways that being polite is extremely important (for various and whatever reasons). Women are generally taught that being "nice" is more important than being honest, for example. Whereas men don't get quite the same level of conditioning or pressure when it comes to manners, politeness and being nice for the sake of being nice. So again, doesn't surprise me that the men were more likely to express the thoughts running through their heads and/or leave, while the women were more likely to sit through the whole date and attempt to make normal, 'nice' conversation. I think that is also why the male fat suit character was deliberately obnoxious and asshat-ish, likely as an attempt to break through the women's "niceness" and get them to reveal their true thoughts. In fact that was probably exactly why with that one lady he made the comment about how he only dates "fit" women. To me that seemed like a deliberate attempt to get her to comment on his own weight, since she wasn't doing it automatically. But again, the experiment really doesn't tell us anything about how superficial or not any of those people are. It only shows us how polite they are when under duress, and the results are not really shocking.

I saw a significant increase in views and initial messages (not hard to get a significant increase from near zero) when I falsely set salary to $150,000+ on Match, which is the highest option. Oh right, the sugar babies and gold diggers won't go for anything less than 6 figure income. Good luck with that, ladies!
