Wow, I had never heard this before.

The scientists concluded that "shift work that involves circadian rhythm disruption is probably carcinogenic to humans," write Kurt Straif, MD, and colleagues

Night Shift Work May Cause Cancer

Posted (edited)

Well, yeah, I figure that disruptions in your sleep pattern can cause a host of things...like weight gain, stress, etc. If you aren't sleeping well, your body can't repair and all that other stuff can result in your immunity being lowered.

I haven't worked late in a while and have been losing a lot of weight. I think one reason why is cuz I no longer do the late-nite snacking at home and snacking to try to stay awake at work I was starting to pick up.

Also, when I was working late, it didn't just go straight back to sleep. I'd stay up and watch TV and stuff - then would get up early, barely getting any sleep cuz I had so much to do before I'd start my shift. It was terrible. I'd have days I felt like a zombie, almost falling asleep at the job and/or behind the wheel.

While I'm bored right now, trying to remind myself to rest up cuz even though things are slow cuz of the holidays now, I already go notice that in Jan it's Ba***s to the Walls!!!

Yeah there's all kinds of stuff that come out that supposedly cause cancer like working night shift, aspartame consumption, cell phone usage, etc. I'm on my cell phone all the time and the amount of radiation is very trace like amounts.

Cancer is a very different disease category than heart disease and diabetes. We don't nearly have as much control over cancer as we do over heart disease and diabetes.

Certain types of chemicals in high quantities like Benzene do pose a high risk for blood cancers like lymphoma and leukemia. I myself was exposed to high levels of benzene and other chemicals in drinking water when I was only 4 years old but I can't say definitively that's what caused me to get lymphoma. But I also can't definitively say that there isn't a link either. It is a very common thing for men in my age group to get lymphoma. Sometimes it stays in remission after first line treatment and sometimes it comes back and metastasizes no matter what. There's so many factors that come into play. I believe for me it's quite possible that I'm at the right age for it as well that the exposure to those chemicals possibly had a connection to it.

Hookers are at high risk.

Nah, death by drugs or murder might come first for many of them.
