Juicing, what is your opinion?

(What is your opinion?)

Hey everyone, Got a question about juicing.

I've been a fitness nut for awhile, and I've been eating really well, from my worst point ''weight wise'' to now, I've lost just under 100lbs. At one point in my life...I did weigh in at almost 250lb's this happened mostly due to very poor diet and lack of exorcise. These days I'm down to about 170ish of mostly muscle, attributed to a total lifestyle change of eating healthier smaller portions, and working out 1 to 2 hours a day six days a week.

I'm at a point now, where I'm trying new things to see how it makes me feel, always in search of new health things to try.

My question is, what do you guys think about juicing? And what difference's do you notice when you juice vs when you didn't?

That is fantastic! Congratulations!!!

I'm down 70 lbs from my heaviest.

I think you are far better off with the units that include the pulp. You don't need 10,000% of the recommended daily allowance of anything, and juicing can overload you with nutrients as well as sugar.

I definitely would stay away from juicing any fruits.

I like fresh juice, but hardly drink it anymore. I couldn't afford to make it, and make the vegetables for all of the dogs, so they came first. I was thinking about asking for a juicer for Christmas. You can drink a juice, and a smoothie during the day - use the pulp in the garden, if you have one, or in a smoothie. Or you could use it to make broth for soup.

You do realise using healthy lifestyle and juicing in the same sentence is an oxymoron? Noone juices for health reasons.

Not that I am totally against it, some previous workout mates of mine did steroids and can imagine you kind of have to if you compete at international level as everyone does it, but you do not...

First of all it is extremely unhealthy both short and long term, especially if you don't know what you doing. And am not sure what you think you'll get out of it, but steroids are mostly taken to shorten recovery time to be able to train more often and harder.

Yea, you'll lose weight, gain more muscle while on it (which should be done in carefully planned cycles). You will probably also get zits, a blown up face, and ball shrinkage. Psychologically you will become highly sexualized, easily agitated and agressive. Ie a douche if you can't handle your hormones. After the cycle you will likely become a bit depressed as your body and mind adjusts to lower testoterone levels and losing your hard gained strenght and muscle. This is where a lot of amateurs go wrong and keep juicing. Long term it damages all major organs including your heart.

Not worth it at all IMO

If he's 170lbs of mostly muscle (a decent weight) I think OP could have been alluding to steroids rather than fruit smoothies.

Hehe, hope so otherwise my previous post is totally irrelevant :p

First off, congratulations on the weightloss!

As far as juicing, I think it's a big scam. By all means, get a juicer and have a juice once in a while just like you would juice from a box but keep in mind that you are guzzling 5X the sugar and losing all the fiber from the fruits/vegetables.

If you must drink your veggies, try smoothies. My fave is greek yogourt, half a banana, half an avocado and a handful of spinach (add about 1/2 cup of water to make it drinkable). I have one every morning.

I don't "juice", but I do have a badass blender that disintegrates everyting, even seeds. I make my own sorbets that is nearly all just fruits that I blend togther and then run through my icecream maker before I harden it up in the freezer. Makes for a really nice desert.

Lol no way in hell I would ever touch steroids. Though I am bulking a little bit now, I only plan to add 10 or 15 lbs of muscle, something that can easily be achieved by simply modifying my workout routine.

Lol it's all good...I should have clarified better.

When I said juicing, I honestly just meant smoothie's and stuff like that haha.

I have a friend who used steroids, and the side effects were horrible, and permanently damaged his body.

Besides, I have no interest in being a complete meat head...I'm aiming for a very lean build, honestly my goal is to get something slimier to Ryan Reynolds body lol.

Yeah, like other have mentioned, juicing basically means you're getting NONE of the good qualities of fruit. Just the sugar, basically. And like someone has told me once, you need quite a few apples to make a glass of juice, but you wouldn't EAT more than one or two. So don't.

It's not HEALTHY. Sure, have juices! I mean, in moderation, it is like anything else! But don't go on juice diets. They are not good for you. The only thing you'll get is hungry and basically malnourished.

Eat the fruit in moderation and skip the juice entirely. And all as part of a well-rounded diet. Juice only? Pass! It's just sugar. Eewwww.

Grapefruit, carrot and ginger juice, is one of my favourites. 2 grapefruit, five carrots, 1-inch of ginger. It was one of the few juices that my stomach could handle, and I was really happy to keep it down.

I like smoothies, but there are times when they're too heavy for my stomach, and as I said: I make a lot of broth.

I have a bad-ass blender, as well. I'm not so keen on sorbet, and wasn't keen on the non-dairy ice cream that I made with the blender, but I don't have an ice cream maker. I wouldn't mind one, so that I can make my own, less expensive coconut milk ice cream.

Green Juicing is a great way to get your greens if you have trouble eating enough salads. If you are not mainly raw vegan, it is true you should probably not drink too many solo fruit juices, because you are already getting concentrated sugar sources, and don't need the calories. Also, don't drink them too close to a meal containing cooked foods, or heavy fatty nut/seed/avocado meals. But they are a great first-thing-in-the-morning way to get an energy boost and your daily greens. Bottled juices are crud. They are pure sugar because all of the living enzymes have been pasteurized out. I'm pretty sure your talking about making your own, which is great! BEcause even a lot of smoothie bars and juice places use frozen blended juices which are really the same as the bottled stuff. Don't be fooled by the stuff at the airports.

Green smoothie's are basically the same as green juices, but with the fiber still included, which slows down the digestive process of all those calories from the sugars and proteins. Both are awesome.

ah juicing as in fruit: yeah total BS. Just have different colour vegetables on your plate, eat clean and some fruit. No need for any of that high sugar crap.

Green smoothies are the way to go in just about every scenario.

A mixture of greens (spinach, kale etc) with fresh fruit of your choosing, some almond milk or coconut water, chia seeds, blend it up in blender like a Vitamix or Nutri Bullet and VOILA!

It's the BEST thing you could ever give your body nutritionally speaking.

What would you be hoping to achieve by juicing? What do you expect it to do that just eating the fruits and veggies won't do?
