Radu
Generalizations aside i also noticed this, it's like the car becomes her new all-purpose-handbag.
GravityMan
When I'm on dates or talking with women, and the conversation of cars come up, I often get asked what I drive (or they see.) After I tell them I drive a 2012 Ford Focus, it's amazing how quickly their tone changes and can tell they are suddenly turned off. If a woman with half a brain realized that by saving money from this company car, which is 100% paid for, I might actually have money. But I guess they would rather be with a guy with a nice BMW but is in debt up to their necks? I find this tactic actually weeds out the gold diggers and materialistic women. Hmmm. I'm getting the impression that on most of these dates, you're the one who's actually bringing up the subject of cars in the first place. And you're deliberately doing so to test her. Y'know, it's possible that some of them are turned off because they sensed that you were testing them. If most of your dates are truly with materialistic women, then you need to rethink where you're meeting those women and maybe consider other venues. Edit: Just saw the word "tactic". Impression confirmed.
acrosstheuniverse
I once got picked up for a date in a Monster Truck. Not gonna lie, that was pretty freakin' awesome.
ktya
Do any of you remember the movie Crazy People; where a group of inpatients in an asylum end up being successful advertising agents by using radical truth in marketing? My fav slogan from that movie is, 'Jaguar - for men who like handjobs from beautiful women they hardly know'. (Second fav is, 'Volvo - they're boxy but they're good.') Kind of sums it up for me. / My favorite was the fedex guy driving like a maniac through nyc. When he clipped some guy and the guy tried to out and tell him he was driving like a maniac and the fedex guy says "f**k you. Ive got a delivery to make" and burns off smoking the tires. I laughed my ass off at that one
nofeelings22
To me, a flashy car says "probably lots of debt" and "trying way too hard to project a certain image". If anything, a flashy car could be an instant dealbreaker to me. An instant indicator that me and this guy have nothing in common. A guy shows up in a beat up pickup truck, though? Nice You're not average. That's above average intelligence.
No Limit
I guess I'll out myself here as the type of girl OP hates. I'm from a car-loving family. My mom's always been 'team Audi', will get her first BMW (X6) next year. If someone ever picked me up with a run-down rusty tin box of a car I'm out. Now here's my problem: I can't have shallow stupid idiots who think they'll have an easy lay with me the moment I sense a BMW or Audi or whatever driving past me. If there was a guy leaning against his car with a stupid smug grin on one side of the road yelling "Hey babe" to me, and a nerdy guy wearing glasses and sitting on a bike on the other, I'd take the nerd. And if the nerd has at least a clean car, I can live with almost any brand (NOT Opel; never ever). But not even a McLaren coud make an idiots' presence bearable. But you can't deny that a car is the best way to represent your society status. Obviously I'm well aware that the 18 year olds driving Audis eat only bread at home or stole daddies' car. On the other hand, it's not just the girls behaving this way; being female myself I look like a 'good girlfriend prospect' in our current Audi; I don't even want to think about the boot licking when we have the BMW...
No Limit
No love for a Lexus? I didn't even know a car brand called "Lexus" exists. Googled it and it looks okay. The only cars around here are Audis, BMWs, VWs, Mercedes, Mazda, Toyota, Renault, Golf, Opel, and a few Ferraris and Maseratis in the big cities. Saw my first Chrysler a month ago. Radu
They are in Europe too, especially the Hybrid SUV's. It's basically Toyota luxury brand. Also, being from Germany ... you forgot the important ones : - Wartburg - Trabant And Dacia/Skoda > all ! Edited December 14, 2014 by Radu

I never asked a guy what type of car he drives. It doesn't really matter. However, if his car is really busted, windows missing, etc I will think he's probably broke, and I would question if he can afford to take me out. But I am more concerned about how he treats me, if we connect, etc.

Haven't seen a Wartburg car yet, Trabant only once during summer holidays at the Autobahn near Frankfurt. Dacia too is pretty rare over here, and Skoda is originally from the Czech Republic and is pretty new in my area (I think they started being bought here in 2012 or something like that; it was sometime after they saved Opel from bankruptcy). There is nothing wrong with driving a ford focus, but to me its kind of a girly car. I drive one myself. To me it just sounds better if he were to drive a truck/camry/honda civic/mustang/charger/sports car...I don't know, its just something about a focus that isn't very appealing. No offense. Andy_K
I can't even remember the last time a girl asked me what I drive. I don't tend to date girls who are likely to care about that sort of thing

Also, being from Germany ... you forgot the important ones : - Wartburg - Trabant And Dacia/Skoda > all ! In the USA, Toyota, Honda...pretty much all the Japanese cars are considered economy (not by me!). I guess they didn't think a high end toyota would sell and it'd just be looked at as a really expensive economy car. It's a vage thing. If they called a Lexus a toyota, it would not make the owners feel like they are different and better than the common toyota owners. OK, we also didn't till recently have the lower end BMW's with tiny motors and hatchbacks. Well, still no hatchback BMW's. You see a hatchbackish z3 every so often, but that's about it. I know they are out there in unAmerica. But in America, BMW doesn't want Americans to associate them to anything other than sporty and luxuary. I remember when (I was like 6) having a non-American vehicle was really looked down on. I mean, people would **** with your car and you better not drive in red-neck country in a Japanese car. Now red necks and country boys just love their Tocomas.

Toodaloo
Never heard anyone call the Focus a girly car. To me something like a Volkswagen Beetle is a girl car. My brothers first car was a bug and it was a "babe magnet" for him... A couple of the guys at work are also bug fans so I will refrain from telling them that!!! The VW Beetle was actually designed as a war vehicle so far from "girly" - unless its painted pink with flowers on it... I read a comment about a womans car being her handbag... This is so true. I don't need a handbag because its all in my car!
