Rowan's wedding.

I think my daughter summed it up best in her journal.

BULLETIN!!! BULLETIN!!!! BULLETIN!!!! Today I learned a lot about love!

(So did I Meggie Pooh, So did I)

Last week saw us driving to two different airports for a total of four trips.

My brother (inlaw) and his SO from England.

My two best friends (Yes, both male) from VA and MD.

And my wonderful Brother (who settled for being a redneck when all he ever really wanted to be was a hippie), and his wife and their daughter.

The dress was finished, all the costumes fell into place (except my daughters wings didn't get here  but in true form she grabbed the shawl I wore to prom a million years ago, nothing was gonna slow things down for her. :D )

It looked like it was going to rain all weekend. Everyone took turns staring at the sky and willing it to stop. My honey in the end declared it Thor's blessing (since the strange Viking God was the God of war and marriage..hmmm...)

Before the wedding people were milling about talking, figuring out their various connections to our life, enjoying wonderful treats, taking in the beautiful, simple decorations that my BIL's SO did just for us. I was escorted in my two of my best friends, one being my adopted sister who dressed herself as my lady in waiting, and the other my friend who flew all the way in from MD to be my armed bodyguard, dressed as the roleplay character we play together.

My daughter was a wingless fairy who declared she didn't need wings to fly, and who sprinkled rosemary, lavender and thyme, as she had done research and found those herbs to be linked to love. Her basket, found by a friend had trinity knots in the handle, which was appropriate because trinity knots have been "our" symbol since we divorced her father. My son carried my Celtic war sword and presented it to my honey as a symbol of the joining of our households. (Earlier they had taken vows with my honey, and were each presented with necklaces to symbolize their unofficial adoption. It was a beautiful ceremony in and of itself with lots of tears flowing freely).

We had been sequestered all day, a funny game of hide the bride. For whatever reason it was decided that once I was in costume, he couldn't lay eyes on me, though we found out later that we had both managed to catch glimpses of each other. Just before the ceremony, we shouted "are you ready" and " I love you " around the corners of the house. His brother wove our desired ceremony into a lovely faerie tale. One that told of a boy who drew underwater houses, and with determination set off on a quest to conquer doing a flip on his bicycle. He told of a brave princess from a distant land who brought magical creatures from this distant land to the boys life.

When the music began it was music written by my BIL played on the Violin by his SO. There was a pause as Brian stopped to drink a salute to his new life with his brother and best man.

My lady in waiting and body guard escorted my children out to the groom and took their place. Then it was time for me. The bride did not march out to "here comes the bride", but instead she was escorted out much to the laughter and amusement of all to "Dueling Banjos" with both parts played on the violin. I was escorted by my brother but gave myself with his blessing. When the small crowd was asked "Do you share this blessing?" There was a resounding YES!!!!!!!!!!

Then it was stated, "Now we would ask if there are any who have objection as to why this couple shouldn't be married, but I will warn you this is a heavily armed bridal party." The whole party waved sword and ax to emphasize the point, getting yet again another round of laughter.

We laughed and cried, and made our vows to have them sealed by my BIL picking up his guitar, and my honey singing "I wanna grow old with you." (Changed to I'm gonna grow old with you).

Our family and friends, saw us well married. The reception was more of the same. Laughter, tears, the mingling of so many lives, and the evidence of so much love.

Yep, Pooh said it best "Yesterday I learned a lot about love."

It really was wonderful, and went off just the way we wanted. My brother had no idea that we were gonna play "Dueling Banjo's" as the wedding march. The look on his face was priceless. :)

Sounds wonderful! Now, of course, you will have to put up one of those photo album things for us to see :)

My face hurts from smiling so much. It was a lovely celebration, just what we wanted.

The hard part has been getting people on airplanes to go back to their homes. Just deposited the last one tonight.
