Crazy For My Teacher

First off, let me clarify that we are both adults ( I'm in my mid-twenties, and he's in his mid-thirties) and he isn't a school/campus teacher, but a piano teacher.

A little personal background about me so you know where I'm coming from; Roughly 3 months ago I ended a toxic decade+ relationship (emotional abuse, lying, cheating..the list could go on..) As that relationship was so long (since childhood) I've had little to no personal experience dealing with adult dating, crushes, etc. so I need all the help I can get!

Shortly after the breakup, I decided to sign myself up for piano lessons (I've always wanted to be classically trained and the time felt right) From the moment I met him, I've been head over heels. He's not what you'd call 'classically handsome'...but I think thats what I like so much. He's older than most of the people I know, and seems wiser. He's shy and a little awkward, too. He often stumbles over his words in conversation and I find it absolutely adorable...I can't seem to get him off my mind!

I honestly did not expect to fall for someone so quickly after the implosion of my last relationship, and was fully ready and excited to be on my own for the first time in my life (I still am) but the feeling is STRONG. I've never felt anything like it, to be honest. I have no idea if he feels the same, and with his shy nature I doubt he'll ever let me know if he did. UGH! What should I do? Should I try to let him know how I feel? Is it weird that he's my teacher? Are these feelings even real or could they just be a projection of my desire to find someone 'safe' (my teacher seems so gentle and kind, the opposite of my abusive ex) Am I ready, or is it best to be alone?

Step 1: quit being delusion about "falling" for this guy. It's a crush, stop picking out kids names for your babies with him.

Step 2: Start flirting with him.

Step 3: If he doesn't ask you out, ask him out.

Step 4: Have fun and don't expect him to be a long term relationship.

Thanks for responding! That is so true. I totally agree I'm being delusional. I keep telling myself to cut it out, and be rational about the situation, but the daydreams continue..I guess they will until I get to know the real him instead of the guy in my imagination.

Don't put the cart before the horse. 1st date has to come long before baby names.

At least flirt. If you have the courage, ask him out.

Before you do, determine if you need to get a new piano teacher if he declines. You can't learn if you are both feeling awkward.

Yeah, I've considered that. At least for now, the adrenaline from the crush is fueling my desire to keep up with practice :)
