FitChick
Senator fractured bones thanks to his snapping. Of course you have the choice of your elastic waistbands snapping if you are too fat!
deathandtaxes
I never saw the appeal in bands. That's scary, though. And should be a reminder to us all to respect your fitness equipment, no matter what it is. Accidents can and do happen.
dichotomy
I use bands in several ways in my home gym. They have assisted me in issues with long standing weakness and pains. A physical therapist got me into using them. I use high quality bands and I do inspect all my home equipment regularly. Elastic Stretch Exercise Bands for Weight & Resistance Training I wonder specifically what he was doing with his bands. His advanced age is an issue. When I heard about this accident I was wondering if it was a treadmill accident. Edited January 3, 2015 by dichotomy

When I heard about this accident I was wondering if it was a treadmill accident. Did it actually say anywhere that he was using resistance bands? I haven't seen this. Besides, they make bands now that have internal governors so that will prevent them from snapping. If he fell because the band snapped, then he didn't have himself properly balanced to begin with. From OP's link above "The accident happened when an elastic exercise band broke, striking Reid in the face and causing him to fall, said spokesman Adam Jentleson. Reid struck some equipment as he fell, breaking multiple bones near his right eye.As he hit the floor, he broke several ribs, Jentleson said."

You'd think with his vast financial resources he could afford better quality. You should also inspect them for damage every now and then. They don't last forever.
