It annoys me that my doctor won't put me on a higher dosage because he thinks I'll lose too much weight. As someone who's always been thin, it's frustrating that pregnancy would screw my body up.

You cant self regulate your metabolism by increasing the dosage....Itd be no different from resorting to cocaine...There are all kinds of negative effects from an overactive thyroid...How would you like to have your eyes bulging out of your skull.??..Look it up ...

As long as your thyroid is functioning properly you should only use the absolute minimum of dosage...No one "needs" a personal trainer to get fit...Hell, many of them dont know shyt about fitness/diet...

There are all sorts of resources on the net and tons of quality references to allow you to achieve your fitness goals...Just because some have it easier than others doesnt mean a person cant get it done..Just get up and do it!

Time, time, and time. That's all it is. How long have you been trying to lose the weight if you don't mind me asking?

I've been on the thyroid medication a few months.

I'd say try and put an emphasis on your diet and sleep. Get lots of sleep and try and eat a very clean diet. Fresh fruits and veggies, no fast food, and very little processed food besides pregrilled and frozen foods. Drink lots of Water during the day and eat breakfast. This will jump start your metabolism. Don't do any wild amount or over strenuous exercise. I think dietary changes and more sleep added to your workouts will help :)

It can take many months to have the optimum dose of meds. You generally start with a low dose and have blood tests every month, increasing the dose if necessary. Just increasing the meds won't magically make the weight fall off. You still have to diet and exercise.

Example: Before I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease (autoimmune form of hypothyroid) I'd lose one pound per week by cutting calories to 1500-1700 per day, walking one to two miles per day and weight training for 45 min. on alternate days. Once my meds kicked in, by doing the same things, I lost two pounds per week.

If you increase your dose on your own, you could become seriously ill.

That website has lots of information but can be dangerous. They advocate much higher doses than recommended. I increased my dose after reading their forums and had sweats, heart palpitations, agitation, anxiety. I didn't lose weight! My doctor found out and fired me as a patient.

Fortunately I found my current endo whom I adore. He is currently trying to slowly lower my dose because he said he has seen patients totally come off meds. Rare but it happens. He can't promise anything but I'm willing to give it a shot. It can take years but I have nothing to lose at this point. Even getting down to half a dose would satisfy me. Meanwhile we are doing this in small fractions over a year or two per step. So far so good.
