AVarma
It's not so much an issue for me since I'm 28 but for those of you over 35 do you think working out makes you look younger?
EasyHeart
It doesn't make you look like you did when you were younger, but it often makes you look younger than people of the same age who don't work out.
thefooloftheyear
Most of the people that "look" young have good genes and live clean...I think thats a bigger part for someone like me, who does work out a lot..but I cant say that working out has given me a wrinkle free face and all (most anyway) of my hair and teeth(late 40s)...Most of the people on my mothers side are like this and almost none of them regularly train... Smoking and drug use makes a lot of people look much older..And the good part of it is that those things can be controlled.. TFY
FitChick
You will move like a much younger person. Watch people from behind as they walk and try to guess their age. Often a younger, obese woman will appear older than someone her mother's age who is fit. You feel younger when you are fit and you are biologically younger than your age as well. Calendar age means nothing. Lifestyle is more than half of the equation. Neither of my parents had healthy lifestyles and they definitely looked their ages or older.
Maleficent
Perhaps it slows down the aging process...? Probably more as a preventive method through.
Quiet Storm
I have noticed that people that run look older. A lot of my friends run and their skin looks saggy, especially on their faces and legs. I don't run, but I weight train and do lots of lunges, squats and planks. I think I look more "filled out" than my runner friends. I am toned, but more bulky so it fills out my aging skin better.
xxoo
I think weight fluctuations contribute to stretched and sagging skin, and staying a stable weight can help retain a youthful appearance longer.
aggie382
I think you will look older. Everyone I know who's really fit looks older. Fat under the skin plumps up wrinkles, and being active outdoors causes sun damage and aging. But you will feel younger than people your age and that's what really matters. amaysngrace
I don't think it makes you look younger. Botox does though.
Emilia
If your weight doesn't fluctuate, your skin remains more taught for longer and that gives the impression of slower aging. You don't get jowls for example, or at least not until much later, because there is no loose skin. Exercise also helps with blood flow and keeping you firm and tight, weight training keeps flesh on your bones longer, it doesn't receede as fast as for people that don't keep up strength and tissue development. You don't diet so your face doesn't get thinner. All if these make you look better and slow aging.
EasyHeart
I have noticed that people that run look older. A lot of my friends run and their skin looks saggy, especially on their faces and legs. Running definitely makes people look older. A lot of people try to use cardio exercise to lose/keep off weight instead of for keeping their hearts healthy. That's a losing battle and "runners" on the dark side of 40 tend to look (and be) sickly. By far the biggest ager IME is smoking. Once they hit 35-40, you can spot a smoker from miles away.

Once they hit 35-40, you can spot a smoker from miles away. Agree.

Marathon runners. Also, sun exposure. I run 5 miles most days. 2 miles before lifting, 3 after. On a treadmill indoors usually @ a 6 minute mile pace. The sickly looking runners are probably marathon runners, vegetarian if not vegan, run for hours at a slow pace (most of them) out in the sun. Not the same thing as me. I love running, it feels good, but I am not a marathon runner and think marathon runner type build is.....not good.
StandingO
I think there is a happy medium. Most hard core runners who run vast distances per week that I have known certainly look older. Any person who is frequency fluctuating weight up and down due to weight lifting work out habits or eating tend to look older after 40 too. Those who keep a steady healthy lifestyle with fitness and eating but dont go into extremes tend to look younger. This is what I have noticed but nothing is black and white as genetics play a big roll. My GF for the most part has live a fit and healthy life. Accept for maybe slight over training here and there. In her body she looks better then many 25 year old women. Now due to too much sun on her face she does have some wrinkles that make her face look older then her body. Same goes for me but I have less wrinkles and I am still told I look 10 years younger then I actually am.
