I've recently read this interesting article about Sandra Bullock where the authors were saying that her succes was due to her "next door girl" type of beauty (except for her acting skills).

They were saying she is beautiful in a non threaterning type of way - enhanced at times by her clumsiness - see Miss Congeniality, which made her more sweet to the eyes of the public and more non threaterning.

Ok, the point of this thread: what's a threaterning beauty to you? What make the difference between gal "friends" and competition when you look at a woman?

Hmm.. I don't see beauty as being threatening

Girls with thin hair that lies flat and straight piss me off. Mine's thicker and always has to be straightened. Or it's kinda curly. :o

I don't know that I can relate to this. I never measured myself against another woman based on physical appearance. I may have made comparisons, but I never felt threatened by having someone that may be considered beautiful around me.

Now that I've pondered it, maybe it's because I'm generally not attracted to someone based on their looks. I tend to be attracted to intelligent, honest, considerate, strong, understanding people. Thinking of my friends, if you were to place them on the "Hot or Not" list they probably wouldn't rank high because in all honesty it's not their looks that are their best attributes.

As I've said before, give me the brains. Talk about **** I don't understand and I'm drooling all over you to learn more. :p

Definition of threaterning beauty: Nathalie Portman in "Closer".

Ok, let me try again. You have a new collegue working in your office. What makes you think: "wow, she's cute, maybe we'll get to chat more over a cup of coffee" as opposed to "oh, I hate her, she's such a fake, all men in the department are drolling all over her"?

Word.

Me, too. I have curly-ish hair. I have been showering at night and not blow drying it lately and everyone compliments it so I guess I look better when I don't comb my hair

But there is a certain type of girl here in FL that pisses me off. They are tall, tan, perfect, they even have manicured toenails because they wear flip flops, their hair is stick-straight and glossy and flat, and they are usually dumb as dirt or not interesting to talk to -- but they look fly as hell.

Lets all post our pics again and see if we would hang out with each other or call each other bitches behind our backs.

Ohhhh.. I see.

<Short bus

*Ahem*

It isn't someones looks that would make me think they are a beeotch.. it would be the way they come across as a person..

There is a big difference between being confident like "I feel good about myself" thats okay and good to go.. AND cockyness like "Damn I AM good and the rest of you can suck my butt" LOL I don't like that in anyone regardless of gender OR outward appearance.

IMO There isn't a threat that I feel when an attractive girl is in the room.. I'm okay because "I AM good and the rest of you can suck my butt!" :lmao: JK JK JK JK :p

Even though I am blonde myself, blonde girls intimidate me for some reason. Especially when they have perfect little noses, tan, and perfect teeth and applied makeup.

I don't really feel jealous of anyone but I do feel kind of stupid when I'm around these perfect girls. I almost feel nervous around them and I know I shouldn't. I don't seem to do this around any girl unless she is blonde...which makes no sense because I have long straight blonde hair myself.

Yeah blond tan Florida girls intimidate me. I am an olive-skinned exotic. But because I'm racially mixed, even though I love being mixed, when I was younger all I wanted was to have blond hair and blue eyes!!! Now I love myself a lot more but I am still insecurr.

I feel a little nervous too. Or insufficient.

Hi, I'm tiki and I'm insufficient. :bunny:

What I like to realize is that even the most perfect person has a flaw. Whether it be a charachter flaw, physical flaw, whatever.

But I can't stand snootie chics. They just piss me off. Like they KNOW they're hot. if you're hot, that's cool. But you can still act like a human for God's sake!!!

Before I used to be intimidated by really beautiful girls...but then I realized what a personality was and well They had none!! LOL so I felt better!

But as for feeling threatened by really beautiful women...not so much anymore. A guy once told me..

'Guys have one night with beautiful, but they fall in love with cute.'

:love::love:

I used to hold my eyes slanted when I was little because I wanted my eyes to stay that way.

But what's up with perfecto hair? Who has that time?!?!?

I blow-dry for five, straighten in one and I'm outta there!

It wouldn't matter if she were cute or the guys were drooling all over her. If she's dumb, we ain't doing lunch. :p

I have puffball hair. I just walk around looking like a mon-chi-chi. I have decided that there's nothing wrong with only finger-combing my hair. If I actually brush it I am WAY too puffy.

Psycho ex used to call me mon-chi-chi when I first woke up in the mornings because I woud have fluffy hair and my eyes would be slightly puffy and I would look more asian. That was one of the few cute things he did.

Um..when new girls started at my job they were cute.

But the difference between them was that some were nice and when out of their way to say hi and introduce themselves..while some were so stuck up and thought the world revolved around them and that everyone had to put up the effort to go and meet them.

But then I have thought of girls as being really stuck up but when I spoke with them they were awesome!

Shes sooo hot! I hate her! lol

What I find intimidating is a woman who is pretty not omg beautiful, smart, and looks like she has it all together.

LucreziaBorgia

The kind that comes in "Stepford Sisters" sorority packs. The thin, uniformly tanned, uniformly highlighted hair, smooth skinned, starved and toned, similarly dressed, straight white teeth from years of expensive dentistry, similar makeup, with similar former "Junior League" mothers, similar designer scents and clothing, with brainwashed 'mean girls' conformity of thought...

I think its the idea of the uniform conforming of media-driven ideals of beauty that wigs me out. One on one is no threat - they're just eye candy to me, but when you get a feral pack of these types together they can be intimidating in their glittery hard 'perfection'.

"When stupid spoiled whores attack!!" :p:laugh:

Awwww, EC, you know the ones I'm talking about, I hope. I have been accused of being stuck up, though, but really, when I first meet people, I am just really shy. :o Especially if they are people I have to work with and act all professional around. Mostly I am just a HUGE STONER.
