hotgurl
So I just started going to the gym again. # times a week so far and exercise on the weekend. So this past week. I went Wed, Thur & Fri than snowshoeing on Sat and skiing on Sun. 30-45 minutes cardio and alternate arms and leg day. Mon I cleaned the house and somehow wrenched my lower back. I went to the gym on Tues and did leg day but everything hurt. My legs burned and I had a hrd time with the cardio. My back hurts even more today. I def pulled something. Should I go to the gym or just rest it?
John83
Rest for sure, unless you 100% certain you are able to work around it (takes a lot of experience) you will more than likely aggravate the injury or at the very least delay recovery
Author hotgurl
yes I think I better. I def pulled something when I was hauling boxes and shoveling on Monday. I had to dig out of 2 feet of snow. I just hate to get out of my routine. But it is better than to further injure it.
Maleficent
Go see a doctor. If you are injured, just resting might not take care of the problem. If you truly 'pulled something' you need medical attention. If not, it's probably just delayed onset muscle soreness and resting is not necessary.
Ninjainpajamas
I'd take a week or two off depending on the pain and type of pain...if it's sharp and sensitive pain that keeps you from doing normal things then you may want to see a doctor right away. If it's a dull blunt pain that doesn't hurt too badly just feels sore or tender, throws you off your work outs kind of thing, then I'd just rest it. Doctors aren't miracle workers and can't always tell what the problem is exactly or how severe the injury is just yet, they'll most likely give you some meds and have you stay off it, so if you think you need medication for the pain he may prescribe you something a bit stronger than over the counter.
thefooloftheyear
Here is my philosophy...And the assumption here is that there isnt some severe injury, just discomfort... If i have an injury, I still go....Ill just train around it...If my back hurts, I just avoid stuff that will aggravate the injured area...You would be surprised how many things you can do, while avoiding the injured area...Many different machines that support your torso, will allow you to work out without further injuring the part,,, I dunno...Ive never seen any better results or a decrease in the time of recovery using this method vs doing nothing altogether....If anything, it helps the injury heal faster.. Take epsom salt baths if you can..Also, I have had some relief with the icy hot types of products...For me, ive tried everything...It usually comes around after a month or so... Good luck.. whichwayisup
Rest it for a few days then do some exercises aimed for back pain. The more you go to the gym the worse you're gonna hurt your back. let it heal!
Priv
Ughhh... hate low back pain. Took me out of the game on a few occasions. I would say give it a little rest (sounds more like you overexerted yourself rather than injuring yourself). And maybe work on lower back strenght. Good mornings worked miracles for me, even more so than fysiotherapy. Done that for a few months and never had lower back injuries again...
newmoon
i suffer from severe back issues that leave me in pain for weeks. i always see a doctor when it gets the point of immobility - i'm in my 30s and just have a weak back. although people often say "rest it" "don't hurt yourself further" etc., that is contrary to everything doctors tell me. and i usually see a different doctor each time i go. every single one has always recommended light exercise (ie. pilates/yoga) during times i am suffering from back pain because it alleviates pain. it sounds counter-intuitive to exercise while the back hurts, and i was like "they are crazy, no way" but i did pilates once while my back was in severe pain and it did help. laying around all day in a bed resting actually makes it worse. resume as much light activity as possible before going back to other exercises, and see a doctor.
Author hotgurl
Well I went home and took a soak in the jacuzzi and it is feeling better today. I think some yoga will help and I can go back to working out.

Satu
yes I think I better. I def pulled something when I was hauling boxes and shoveling on Monday. I had to dig out of 2 feet of snow. I just hate to get out of my routine. But it is better than to further injure it. Just go for a relaxing swim or an easy walk, so that you can feel good that you did something. Stay within your comfort zone until your injury gets better.
