I want to learn how to dance for my gf

Recommended Posts

I only dance when I'm drunk. I feel retarded doing it. My gf like most girls likes to dance. When I ask for advice people tend to say "Just move to the beat" I don't even know wtf that means. I'm not trying to learn anything complicated here just something basic that would apply to any situation.

Do a google search for local classes. Salsa is great and the lessons are often mixed up with different things such as Tango etc. Salsa also fits well to and R&B beat. You will learn loads.

The more you practice the better you get. I have a friend who was given a series of 8 lessons years ago. Two left feet, no clue at all. He only went because they were non refundable and he hates money being wasted. He now teaches dance and is now also learning 50's rock and roll. He absolutely loves it . You can't get him off a dance floor drunk or sober!

Good luck and have fun!

I get it, OP. I LOVE to dance, like your GF, and when I am by myself, I can shake my a** and people say I am a great dancer... BUT... I NEVER have guys want to dance with me. I don't really know how to partner dance. So go find some lessons. And like Ben Stiller in "Along Came Polly" you will be sincere enough to make an impression on the right girl with it.

Find a class on classic dance styles for beginners. Go with or without your girlfriend, until you are comfortable dancing with her. Note: she will probably not care about your abilities as long as she sees you trying. But don't stop practicing!

Also; look up a few basic dance moves (on youtube, et cetera) to practice in your room in front of a mirror. Allow yourself to feel your individual muscles and body parts moving to the music. Do you like music in general? Use one you like, as long as it has rhythm. A slow rhythm, soft and sensous. Rythm is what makes you think of sex when you listen to music (in general, anyway).

Listen to the same song repeatedly at least 6-7 times. This allows you to catch up and work with the music, instead of always trying to catch up to the beat.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. The funny thing is even when I'm by myself I get self conscious. I end up saying this is stupid and sit down. I'll check out YouTube and see if there are any beginner dance groups on meet up.

you sound like me when I try to practice drills for soccer. Oooh I was cussin' my teammates last weekend! The question we must ask ourselves is, will it make my life better in some way? Can I learn from something I am not automatically great at? Of course we can. I just wish we could know what that is before we go putting purselves on the line for it...
