Backing out of Valentine's Date

Recommended Posts

I met a guy for dinner and we have talked some via phone... But i don't really like him very much.

But I thought I just needed to give it time... Anyway he asked me to dinner on Valentine's. I do not want to go anymore.

What is best way to tell him? He's very sweet. Just not a click for me.

Should i just text him that something came up etc?

That's a tough one. I don't know which would be better, telling him now or sucking it up & going to be gracious. I keep hearing "it's cruel to be kind" so I'm going to say Tell him now. Do not text, that is mean. Call him & say you have though it over & you no longer think it's a good idea. (You should have just declined in the beginning).

If you cancel on him, do it before valentines day at least. I would call him, and do the kiss kill kiss, state a positive, you really liked meeting him...but were not a good match...and then say, something positive. keep it simple.

That's game playing. Don't play games. Have the courtesy to call him, be honest, and tell him straight you two are not a good match. Keep the conversation brief. That's it.

I don't care if it's texting or calling or email, but thank him sincerely for his interest and especially his Valentine's invitation, but say that while he will be a great guy for someone you realized he wasn't the right match for you and you don't want him to spend money on you because that wouldn't be right under the circumstances.
